Chen’s Kitchen Introduce
For residents of Bayville and the surrounding Long Island communities, Chen’s Kitchen serves as a local mainstay for satisfying, classic American-Chinese cuisine. Located conveniently on Bayville Avenue, this Chinese restaurant specializes in providing the comforting, familiar flavors that New Yorkers often crave, from savory appetizers to robust main courses. It is perfectly positioned as a quick, reliable option for both Lunch and Dinner, catering especially well to solo diners and families looking for a straightforward, tasty meal.
Chen’s Kitchen primarily operates as a high-efficiency takeout establishment, though it does offer a few tables for those who prefer to dine-in in the casual, quiet atmosphere. The focus here is on the food itself: providing generous portions of favorite dishes like Fried Rice, Chow Mein (Soft Lo Mein Noodles), and an extensive variety of Chicken, Beef, Pork, and Shrimp entrees. Reviewers often point to the quality and flavor of the main dishes, with one customer noting a positive experience with the King Po Shrimp, praising its slight spice and medley of fresh vegetables. The menu is designed around traditional expectations, ensuring patrons can find their preferred version of staples such as General Tso's Chicken, Sweet and Sour dishes, and various Lo Mein options.
The kitchen is well-equipped to handle diverse dietary needs, prominently featuring many Vegetarian options. The dedicated section for Vegetables and Tofu is robust, offering flavorful choices like Buddha's Feast, Sautéed Green Beans, and multiple preparations of tofu, including Szechuan Tofu and the popular Garlic Tofu. This commitment to variety ensures that Chen’s Kitchen can accommodate the entire family, making it a reliable spot for group orders.
However, as with many busy local takeout spots, the experience is sometimes mixed, as noted by local customer feedback. While the food is generally well-received—especially dishes like the Kung Pao Shrimp and the inclusion of Egg Drop Soup and Egg Rolls in combo meals—some patrons have reported issues with order accuracy (e.g., receiving pork instead of chicken) and extended waiting times, even when the restaurant appears to focus heavily on the takeout model. The classic Won Ton soup has also been noted by one reviewer as being less flavorful than expected. Despite these occasional service inconsistencies, the community frequently returns to Chen's Kitchen for its established role as a source of quick, comforting, and affordable Chinese fare. The dedication to offering well-loved comfort food remains the business’s strong point, making it a practical choice in the Bayville dining scene.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Staying with my brother-in-law and had just flown in from Florida and had a late lunch. So we were looking for a Chinese restaurant in the area. Strictly a takeout restaurant that has a couple of tables in the waiting area. Everything in behind plexiglass. My wife wasn't hungry so she ordered just Egg drop soup and an egg roll.I ordered the King Po Shrimp , slightly spicy with all kinds of vegetables, good. Came with an egg roll and fried rice. I also ordered the WonTon soup which was like water.
March 31 · Richard SchagrinTook ridiculously long and I asked for chicken, they ended up adding pork. Never going again
August 27 · Jay FazThese people are so nice. Their food is amazing. I live in oyster bay and I promise you this place is the best around. Since new ownership their food has gotten better. Highly recommend getting sesame chicken.
August 31 · Reko KidI get that every Chinese food place makes certain dishes diffently. Somehow, this place screwed up wonton soup? I'll eat anything but I could finish this soup, it was murky and had an odd taste to it. The boneless spare ribs were like dried out jerkey and didn't have much flavor to it. The staff was very nice, though.
August 31 · JackieNot sure of the other reviews. This place was filthy with the previous owners and food was disgusting. I ordered there one time and the ribs looked like they had been sitting in grease for weeks and the chicken was slimy. I threw it out. The new owners cleaned the place up and the food is good. Truth is I have never found an exceptional Chinese Restaurant on Long Island. Since it is the only place in town I can at least get decent food without a long drive.
