Cull & Pistol Introduce
Nestled inside the vibrant and bustling Chelsea Market, Cull & Pistol is a premier seafood restaurant that has quickly become a favorite for both New Yorkers and visitors. This veteran-owned establishment offers an authentic and high-quality dining experience centered around the freshest seafood available. Unlike many restaurants that feel disconnected from their ingredients, Cull & Pistol is directly connected to The Lobster Place, ensuring a constant supply of top-tier, fresh catches. The name itself is a nod to lobster grading—a "cull" has one claw, and a "pistol" has none—a detail that speaks to their deep knowledge and love for seafood. This dedication is evident in every dish, from perfectly cooked lobsters to some of the best oysters in the city.
The atmosphere at Cull & Pistol is a perfect blend of cozy and trendy. Despite its location within a busy market, the restaurant provides a charming, intimate space that feels like a hidden gem. Choosing Cull & Pistol for your next seafood meal in New York is an excellent decision, and several key factors make it a standout choice. The most compelling reason is the unparalleled freshness of the seafood. As one reviewer noted, "Everything is fresh and cooked to perfection." This is not just a claim; it's a reality backed by its relationship with The Lobster Place. This is where you go for a taste of the ocean that is as authentic as it gets. The **Lobster Rolls**, both hot and cold, are a must-try, though at a premium price. They are a classic New England staple done to perfection, served with Old Bay fries that are a perfect complement. The **Grilled Lobsters** are also a standout, grilled and basted with a lemon-thyme butter that brings out the natural sweetness of the meat.
Beyond the lobster, the menu offers a wealth of incredible options. The raw bar, with its selection of the "best oysters in the city," is an experience in itself. From the briny **Merasheen Bay** to the local **Widow's Hole**, there's an oyster for every preference. For cooked dishes, the **Grilled Spanish Octopus** and **Butterflied Grilled Branzino** are highly recommended. A reviewer specifically praised these dishes for being "plated beautifully, arrived promptly, and tasted just as good as it looked." The **Market Fish** is another fantastic choice, as it's always an "amazing choice" that highlights the freshest catch of the day. The **New England Clam Chowder** is a comforting classic that shouldn't be missed, especially on a chilly day.
Finally, the overall experience is what sets Cull & Pistol apart. The staff's dedication to providing "excellent" service and "great recommendations" makes a huge difference. Their knowledge of the menu and passion for seafood elevate your meal from good to great. The cozy and charming atmosphere, while small, provides an intimate setting that makes your meal feel truly special. This, combined with the convenience of being located within Chelsea Market, makes Cull & Pistol a genuine gem. It’s a place where you can feel confident that you are getting the highest quality seafood and service, making it well worth the effort of navigating the market crowds to find it.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1An authentic restaurant with delicious food and lovely staff. Everything is fresh and cooked to perfection. One of my favorite spots in Manhattan! Catch of the day is always an amazing choice. Some of the best oysters in the city, crab, scallops, mussels… the works! ♥️♥️♥️
July 29 · Olivia RamosI didn’t have a reservation when I stopped by Cull & Pistol Oyster Bar, 75 Ninth Ave, Manhattan, NY, but luckily I was able to grab a seat at the bar. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but it feels cozy and charming. Our server was excellent—offering great recommendations that really elevated the experience.I ordered both the Branzino and the Octopus, and each dish was plated beautifully, arrived promptly, and tasted just as good as it looked. I would definitely come back to dine here again. The only drawback is the location—you have to weave your way through the busy Chelsea Market to find it. If you don’t mind navigating the crowds, you’ll discover a real gem worth the effort.
September 07 · Sam C WilliamsI first went to the other side which is Lobster Palace because I really wanted a lobster roll and I heard great things. Lobster Palace only offers cold lobster rolls and directed me to Cull & Pistol. The atmosphere was wonderful, the service was great, and the food was simply amazing. That was the best lobster roll I've had, and the fries with the old bay seasoning was good too. My mom also really enjoyed her clam chowder. I would definitely return.
August 28 · L StephensonWe always get the lobster poutine when we visit and it never disappoints. We love it with extra cheese curds and gravy and it makes for an excellent indulgence. We also ordered the scallops and asked for it just be pan seared and it was perfectly cooked and well seasoned.
