What is worth choosing
Danubius is worth choosing for a multitude of reasons, but its most compelling appeal lies in its authenticity and the heartfelt experience it provides. For those who have a connection to Romania or Eastern European culture, the restaurant offers an unparalleled sense of "home," as one customer so perfectly put it. The food is more than just a meal; it's a taste of tradition, with dishes that are described as "incredibly fresh, flavorful, and authentic." The ownership from Galați, Romania, adds a layer of genuine tradition and "love" that you can truly taste in every bite. This isn't a generic eatery; it's a place where the recipes and flavors are passed down through generations. The value is also a significant draw. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable, making it a great choice for a filling and satisfying meal without breaking the bank. The tripe soup, for example, is noted for being "a little bit sour from the sour cream" and is a must-try for those seeking an authentic and interesting flavor profile. The grilled meat is consistently tender, and the overall quality of the food is high. Another key factor is the restaurant's commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Feels just like home 🇷🇴I had an amazing lunch experience at Danubius Restaurant—it truly felt like being back in Romania. The food is incredibly fresh, flavorful, and authentic. Every bite reminded me of home-cooked meals from back in the day.The staff was extremely welcoming and kind, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. It’s rare to find a place in NYC that captures the warmth and hospitality of Romania so perfectly.I found out the owners are from Galați, and you can truly taste the love and tradition in every dish.Definitely coming back for dinner—if lunch was this good, I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu.Highly recommend!
July 27 · Emanuel PascalFood tastes good, but it is not like special in any way. Grilled meat is tender. The tripe soup is pretty interesting because it is a little bit sour from the sour cream I think. It is also very cheap for such a decent size portion. Grilled cheese is like cheese stick. It was a very heavy lunch that kept me full for the rest of the day.
August 22 · Uyen NguyenTook my dad here on Father’s Day. The food was ok, definitely not worth a return trip for me and the service was not good. Our waiter was grumpy and not friendly at all and just seemed miserable to be there. He was borderline rude. They didn’t have any Romanian beers, or wine by the glass. The meatball soup I had was just ok, I’ve had better. The grilled chicken was overly peppery and not salty enough and the accompanying fries were not particularly good either. My daughter had the polenta dish which was pretty delicious but it’s hard to mess up polenta. My dad tried the Ciolan cu fasole (pork ham bone with beans) and it was good. The service and overall atmosphere kinda ruined this dining experience for us and I would not return. I asked for to go boxes because I don’t like to be wasteful and our waiter didn’t even bother to bring me a bag to carry them in. Street parking can be hit or miss in the area.
June 15 · Laura B.Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! A true winner of fine dining with a touch of class. An absolute must try of exquisite European delicacy. Great service and attentive staff. All and all a great experience. I will definitely be back.
March 23 · Michael FeuersteinThis was my first time having Romanian food and it was amazing. We got the pork sausage and the cabbage rolls and then a dessert. Highly highly recommend you come and try out this place!!
