The culinary landscape of New York City is a tapestry of diverse flavors, and Di Di Chinese Restaurant stands out as a unique fixture in the heart of Brooklyn's Sheepshead Bay neighborhood. More than just your average Chinese takeout spot, Di Di has carved a niche for itself by delivering a dual-concept menu that combines reliable, high-quality Chinese comfort food with an unexpected, yet popular, Tex-Mex selection. For those in search of a quick, satisfying meal that caters to varied cravings, Di Di is a local institution worth exploring.
Locally, Di Di is celebrated for moving beyond the standard fare often found at quick-service Chinese establishments. One consistent highlight, according to devoted customers, is the superior quality of their ingredients, particularly the chicken, which is noted for its authentic flavor—a distinguishing factor that sets it apart from competitors in South Brooklyn. The restaurant has garnered a reputation for generous portions, flavorful sauces, and a consistently friendly, accommodating atmosphere, which all contribute to its status as a highly-rated, dependable eatery for both lunch and dinner.
The presence of both Chinese and Tex-Mex dishes—a pairing referred to as Chinese Tex-Mex in some listings—is a testament to the eclectic, fast-paced dining culture of New York. While Chinese staples anchor the menu, the addition of items like Tacos, Burritos, and Quesadillas provides a fun, convenient, and affordable alternative. This blend offers a solution for group orders where preferences might differ, making it an ideal spot for solo diners, families, and co-workers looking for comfort food or a quick bite. Whether you're in the mood for classic Lo Mein or a steak and chicken Burrito, Di Di promises a diverse menu to satisfy any craving.

What is Worth Choosing
When approaching the expansive menu at Di Di, discerning New York diners have identified several standouts that make this restaurant a top choice.

- Garlic Chicken
- Curry Chicken
- Chicken in Black Bean Sauce
- Lo Mein
A particularly popular meal that bridges the restaurant's dual identity is the Chicken over Mexican Rice, which is described as decent and priced well, featuring perfectly cooked chicken.
For the Tex-Mex and American section, a few items stand out for a different kind of craving:
- Famous Buffalo Wings: Recognized by critics and popular with diners, served with celery and blue cheese dressing.
- Burritos: Substantial and filling, options like the Steak and Chicken Burrito or Guacamole Burrito are served in large, fresh tortillas with rice, black bean, cheddar cheese, guacamole, sour cream, salsa, lettuce, and tomato.
- Soups and Chili: Options like the Mexican Chicken Soup and Mexican Steak and Rice Soup offer satisfying comfort.
- Garden Salad: A lighter choice, such as the Fresh Garden Salad with Pineapple ($4.50) or Fresh Garden Salad with Shrimp ($5.75), is also available.
While the Tex-Mex offerings are diverse, customer feedback suggests caution on the quality of the beef dishes and an occasional inconsistency with the tacos, indicating the Chinese and chicken-based dishes are the most consistently satisfying choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Just discovered this gem a few months ago and I am so glad I did because this really seems like the last Chinese food takeout place in all of South Brooklyn where there chicken actually tastes like chicken and they are clearly using higher quality ingredients than there competition.I've had there chicken with broccoli, garlic chicken, curry chicken, chicken in black bean sauce, and there lo mien, and not only are the portions huge, but all the sauces taste great as well.Yao, the owner, speaks perfect English, and unlike most take out places, he is friendly, funny, and extremely accommodating and will tweak your order just the way you like it without any hesitation.I am now a regular there 2x a week! Thanks Yao!
December 04 · Dave PDon't order anything beef related or tacos. The beef was incredibly chewy and bland in flavor. Tacos had very little filing inside of them (at least compared to other places I've been to).But the chicken over Mexican rice was pretty decent for its price. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the extra toppings I ordered weren't bad.Overall, the food here is pretty hit or miss.
November 14 · Andrew ChenBeen going for 10+ years and they are still as tasty as my first time. Chicken n broccoli with garlic sauce over fried green plantains is how I've survived so longgggg.
March 16 · La PatronaHouse special BROWN rice General Tso's chicken. 🤤 I'll be back!!
April 01 · Chris PerryWent here to purchase two ground beef tacos on 1/28/23 late afternoon. Big mistake. After eating their food, I had a case of bad diarrhea. How do I know it was from their food, it was my ONLY meal of the day. This place is not sanitary.
