Falafel Tanami Introduce
For New Yorkers searching for an authentic, high-quality taste of the Middle East, particularly the vibrant street food culture of Israel, look no further than Falafel Tanami. Nestled in the heart of Brooklyn's Midwood neighborhood, this family-owned establishment has built a stellar reputation that extends far beyond Avenue M, even earning recognition from the prestigious NY Times as one of the city's 100 best restaurants. Falafel Tanami specializes in the eponymous chickpea fritter, along with other classic Israeli vegetarian fare, delivering a culinary experience that is consistently described by locals as being 'super original and authentic.'
The mission here is simple: serve fresh, flavorful, and authentic Israeli food with a commitment to quality ingredients and quick, friendly service. The restaurant's proprietors, an Israeli husband-and-wife duo, have poured their family traditions—including a secret falafel recipe passed down through generations—into every dish. This dedication to authentic preparation, from house-made falafel to freshly baked pita, is what elevates Falafel Tanami above typical fast-casual spots and has cemented its status as a must-visit destination for true food lovers across the boroughs.
The menu is focused yet deeply satisfying, centered around their incredible falafel. Popular choices include the classic Falafel Pita, a crunchy, flavorful chickpea patty wrapped in a soft, thick cushion of pita, and the Falafel Laffa, which wraps the crispy patties in a warm, larger laffa bread. For those looking for a complete meal, the Falafel Plate comes with eight falafel balls, hummus, a side plate of fresh salads, and two pitas. Beyond their main draw, the restaurant also serves up other Israeli staples. The menu often includes Sabich, a popular street food sandwich with fried eggplant, hard-boiled egg, and salads, and other comforting sides like fresh salads and perfectly crisp fries.
Pricing is notably accessible, especially for the high quality and generous portions served in New York City. A Falafel Pita is available for a modest price of $7.00, while a larger Falafel Laffa is $10.00. Customers can also opt for a 1/2 Falafel Pita for just $4.00 for a lighter bite. Side options include a fresh salad and a serving of fries, each priced affordably at $3.00. The drink selection is straightforward, featuring Water ($1.50), Soda ($1.50), and the refreshing Israeli Drink ($2.00).
Falafel Tanami is conveniently located in Brooklyn, making it a neighborhood staple for residents and a worthwhile trip for those coming from other parts of New York City. The friendly 'mom and pop feeling,' as one customer noted, ensures a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

June 19 · Moshe WeissNever had Falafel before. My friend took me & I was skeptical but also excited. Upon arrival you would see that it wasn’t the most up-kept place but don’t let the mom and pop feeling fool you. The falafel pita was sooooo light refreshing flavorful, like I was at lost for words with each bite. I plan on taking a trip VERY SOON… NY TIMES was spot on when they said they are the best in the city.
