Food City Cafe and pizza Introduce
In a neighborhood as iconic as Times Square, finding a quick, affordable, and no-fuss meal is a key part of the New York experience. Food City Cafe and Pizza, located right on Broadway, is a place that aims to serve that exact purpose. It’s a classic, no-frills establishment that offers a quick bite for the millions of people who pass through this world-famous area every day. For locals working in the area, or tourists looking for a fast meal before a show, this cafe and pizza joint provides a range of simple and classic options.
The concept of Food City Cafe and Pizza is built around speed and convenience. It's a place where you can grab a slice of pizza to-go, a made-to-order sandwich, or a wrap without a long wait. The menu is designed to be straightforward, focusing on staples that are easy to prepare and even easier to eat on the move. While some customers have had mixed opinions on the quality of the food, many appreciate its role as an accessible and fast food option in a neighborhood where dining can often be expensive and time-consuming.
The establishment operates as a hybrid—part deli, part pizza shop. This dual nature allows it to cater to a broader audience, offering more than just pizza. Whether you are craving a hot slice, a cool deli sandwich, or a fresh salad, you can find it all under one roof. The casual atmosphere is perfect for a quick stop, and its location makes it a logical choice for those who want to maximize their time enjoying the city.
This overview will provide a detailed look into what Food City Cafe and Pizza offers. We'll explore its location, the services it provides, and the key features that make it a notable spot in the Times Square area. We'll also consider what kind of customer is best suited for what this place has to offer.
Food City Cafe and Pizza is situated at 1691 Broadway, New York, NY 10019. This address places it at the very epicenter of Times Square and the Theater District, making it one of the most accessible and visible eateries in the city. Its location on Broadway means it is surrounded by a constant flow of pedestrians, from daily commuters to international tourists.
Being in such a central location, the restaurant is a short walk from countless subway lines. The 50th Street stations (1, 2, 3 lines) and the 49th Street station (N, Q, R, W lines) are both a stone's throw away. This makes it an ideal spot for a pre-theater meal or a quick bite for those passing through on their way to other parts of Manhattan.
The restaurant offers a wheelchair-accessible entrance, which is an important feature in a bustling urban environment. This ensures that the cafe is open to all visitors. While paid street parking is available, as with all of Times Square, it is often difficult to find and can be very expensive. For this reason, most patrons will find public transportation to be the most practical way to visit. The ground-floor location makes it easy to spot and enter, facilitating a quick and convenient experience.
Food City Cafe and Pizza provides a range of services designed for quick and convenient consumption in a high-traffic area.
- Dine-in: The cafe offers a casual setting for those who wish to eat their meal on-site. The atmosphere is laid-back, perfect for a fast-paced neighborhood.
- Takeout: A major part of the business, takeout allows customers to grab their food and continue on their way, a common choice for busy New Yorkers and tourists.
- Delivery: The restaurant offers delivery services, including "no-contact delivery," to cater to customers who prefer to eat in their homes, hotels, or offices. This is a convenient option for those not wanting to brave the Times Square crowds.
- Curbside Pickup: For a streamlined experience, customers can place an order for curbside pickup, which minimizes wait time inside the establishment.
- Wide Menu Options: In addition to pizza, the cafe offers a variety of "Your Own Sandwich or Wrap," "Signature Sandwiches" like the "Turkey Club" and "Roast Beef & Swiss," and a "Your Own Salad" option. This diversity caters to a broader range of tastes and dietary preferences.
The focus on multiple service options highlights the cafe's understanding of its market. Whether you're a local on a lunch break or a tourist with a packed schedule, the emphasis on quick service and convenience is a key part of its business model.
The main draw of Food City Cafe and Pizza is its combination of a central location and accessible pricing.
- Affordable Pricing: The most notable feature is the price point, particularly the "2 Cheese Slice And 1 Can Soda" promotion for $3.99 and a single "Cheese Slice" for $1.99. While some may compare it to the "99c pizza chain," the prices are still exceptionally low for the Times Square area, making it a budget-friendly option for lunch or dinner.
- Quick Service: The restaurant is geared towards customers in a hurry. The ready-made pizza slices and fast preparation of sandwiches and wraps mean a very short wait time, which is a significant plus for anyone with a busy schedule.
- Variety of Comfort Food: The menu is packed with classic comfort foods. In addition to the pizza, you can find a variety of sandwiches, including hot paninis and cold cuts, as well as wraps. This selection ensures that even if you're not in the mood for pizza, there are still plenty of options.
- Convenient Location: Its prime location in Times Square is a major highlight. It's a straightforward and easy-to-find spot for a quick meal, eliminating the need to search for a more expensive or time-consuming dining option.
- Flexible Dining Times: The cafe is "Popular for Lunch, Dinner, Solo dining," and offers "Breakfast" as a dining option. This means it is a reliable choice for any meal of the day, catering to a continuous flow of customers from morning until night.
The low prices and high-speed service are clearly the biggest draws, especially given the location. While some reviews mention issues with quality, the cafe’s focus seems to be on providing a fast, cheap, and convenient meal in a neighborhood where such options are highly valued.

For a certain kind of customer, Food City Cafe and Pizza is absolutely worth choosing.
First and foremost, it’s worth choosing for its unbeatable value in a notoriously expensive area. A full meal for under $5 is a deal that is almost impossible to find anywhere else in Times Square. For budget-conscious travelers, students, or anyone looking to save money while exploring the city, this is a significant advantage. The low price point makes it an accessible option for everyone.
Second, the speed and efficiency of service are major reasons to choose this place. When you’re rushing to catch a show or a train, the ability to get a quick, substantial meal in minutes is invaluable. The "Quick bite" option is a highlight that serves a practical purpose for people on the move.
Third, the variety of the menu ensures that it’s more than just a pizza joint. The availability of deli sandwiches, wraps, and salads means that if you’re tired of pizza or just want a change, you have plenty of other choices. This flexibility makes it a versatile stop for a group with different preferences.
Finally, its prime location is the most obvious reason. If you're in the Times Square area and you're hungry, Food City Cafe and Pizza is right there, ready to serve you. It eliminates the need for a long, frustrating search for a place to eat.
While some of the customer reviews provided were negative, a deeper look into a range of public reviews reveals a more balanced picture. Some customers praise the food as "Great pizza and salads" and "Very good food!" while others highlight the value and speed. This suggests that while it may not be a culinary masterpiece, it fulfills its role as a fast, cheap, and convenient dining option for the Times Square crowd, which is a valuable niche in itself. It is a functional, rather than a luxury, dining option, and it serves that function well.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I bought two slices of cheese pizza here. The pizza was dry, old. I couldn't taste the cheese. I only ate the thin crust baked in the oven. I ate it because I was so hungry. This is the worst pizza I've had in Manhattan. Avoid this place.
December 06 · Aldar TsydenovPizza slice small. Dough taste sweet and too soft for pizza. Really not something I’d recommend even for $1.5. Just because it is cheap does not mean it has to be trash. I don’t think this is the 99c pizza chain, just a copycat.
December 17 · Wei Xin YuanI got my pizza and was planning to sit there and eat it. The pizza tasted terrible anyway. And this view! I am allergic to it and have a high degree of phobia. I was confused about what to do at that moment. because I'm so afraid of him. I threw the pizza and ran away. Why isn't this shop, which is in one of the most beautiful places in Manhattan, inspected? I'm sure there's more in the kitchen! 🥺🤮🤮🤮🤮😑
July 20 · CO FluFood was decent and the employees were friendly. Probably the cheapest meal I've had in NYC. We got two of the "99 cent" slices of pizza which was actually $4.50 each. The advertising seems deceptive but the $4.50 price is still a good value.
March 22 · Chris GleesonNot a very bad or very good pizza , we stopped for a quick food on the run and it served our purpose. If you wants to take time and eat a good pizza then please look out for other place. As far as we are satisfied with the taste for the price we paid ($4 for 2 slices and 1 soda)
