Friedman's Introduce
In a city celebrated for its endless culinary diversity, some restaurants manage to stand out by doing something truly different. Friedman's is one such place. While its name might suggest a classic American diner or deli, this restaurant offers a surprisingly "interesting concept," as one reviewer noted: a mix of both American and Chinese cuisines with two full, distinct menus. This unique blend allows diners to explore a wide range of flavors in one sitting, making it a perfect spot for groups with varied tastes. Whether you're craving a classic Reuben or a flavorful plate of soup dumplings, Friedman's has you covered. It's a place that has garnered a reputation for being a great neighborhood spot for good food and friendly service.
Friedman's is particularly well-known for its commitment to being a gluten-free friendly establishment. While not all items are gluten-free, a significant portion of the menu is, and the staff is knowledgeable about accommodating dietary needs. This has made it a favorite among those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, who can enjoy classic comfort foods like fried chicken and waffles or pancakes without worry. The menu is expansive, offering everything from all-day breakfast items like Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and Steak and Eggs to hearty entrees like Roasted Salmon and Steak Frites. The Chinese menu, a collaboration with La Salle Dumpling Room, is equally impressive, featuring favorites like Pepper Steak, a variety of dumplings, and noodle dishes. This "mix of both American and Chinese" is a major draw for diners seeking both comfort and adventure on their plate.
The atmosphere at Friedman's is casual and welcoming, suitable for a walk-in meal or a planned dinner. The restaurant is popular for its laid-back vibe, providing a comfortable setting for catching up with friends or a family dinner. Despite the casual setting, the quality of the food is a priority, with many customers praising the freshness and taste of the dishes. While there may be some mixed reviews on certain dishes, particularly with delivery, the overall consensus is that the food is "good" and the portions are "good size." The ability to order classic American sandwiches and Chinese specialties like "pepper steak and soup dumplings" from a single kitchen makes for a convenient and fun dining experience.

This was such an interesting concept for a restaraunt, the mix of both American and Chinese with two full menus for both.I ordered from the Chinese side and got the pepper steak and soup dumplings, both were great! I would come back to this restaurant to see what else they had to over.
September 19 · Connor PinkneyThis Fish Taco dish cost $24. It is $8 each for these minis, which is crazy. Also this should have been an appetizer rather than an entree for what you are getting.
August 19 · Wei Reng MaiThis was my second visit to this place. The first time I was visiting the LaSalle Dumpling Room which has recently merged into Friedman's West. We went for the Chinese food. The food was good and the service was excellent. I really like the atmosphere. My friend and I arrived around 1:00 p.m. on a Sunday and it was rather busy. But since lunch was winding down, we only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. The hostess and the servers were excellent and very attentive. Both visits have been good experiences.
November 05 · Regina WardFriedman's West and La Salle Dumpling have merged into one restaurant. The good news is that two people craving different cuisines can now dine together at the same place. However, the downside is that those unaware of La Salle Dumpling's presence inside Friedman's may find it nearly impossible to locate the restaurant. This unique establishment offers two completely distinct cuisines, prepared to perfection. In particular, the xiao long bao and Chinese-style noodles are exceptional. The brunch menu exceeds expectations, and both the coffee and iced tea are outstanding.
December 18 · Eui Sun ChungWe stumbled onto this gem, excellent gluten-free menu and attentive service. The Ruben sandwich with gluten-free bread was 10/10. The portions for the kids meal ($15) were substantial.
