Guyana's Choice Bakery Introduce
For New Yorkers who crave the sweet, comforting flavors of the West Indies, particularly the unique culinary heritage of Guyana, Guyana’s Choice Bakery stands as a beloved institution in South Richmond Hill, Queens. Nestled on 101st Avenue, this bakery has been a go-to spot for the local Caribbean community and a destination for others seeking authentic, freshly baked Guyanese breads and pastries. For many patrons, stepping into the bakery is an experience that instantly evokes a nostalgic connection to the flavors and aromas of home, a sentiment that speaks directly to the establishment's cultural significance in the New York region.
The heart of Guyana’s Choice Bakery lies in its commitment to traditional Caribbean baked goods. The display cases are typically filled with a tempting array of both sweet and savory treats. Customer reviews often single out their Cheeseroll as a must-try item, with some declaring it to be one of the best available in New York City, even surpassing offerings from well-known competitors in the area. Alongside flaky pastries, the bakery is noted for selling a variety of fresh Caribbean drinks, including the invigorating taste of Coconut Water and freshly pressed Cane Juice, providing a tropical refreshment that complements their baked goods perfectly.
Beyond its core bakery offerings, the shop functions as a source of specialty Caribbean products, making it a valuable stop for those stocking up on West Indian essentials. New Yorkers from across the boroughs make the trip to acquire both the famous pastries and the authentic beverages that are part of the daily diet in the region. The bakery aims to offer a quick, convenient service experience, positioning itself for "Quick visits," allowing busy New Yorkers to grab their favorites easily.
It is important for potential customers to be aware of the mixed feedback found in public reviews. While the quality and authenticity of the baked goods and fresh drinks are frequently praised—with comments highlighting the delicious, fresh bread and pastries—there are recurring and serious concerns noted by some long-time customers. These include complaints about pricing discrepancies, particularly when purchasing multiple coconuts or fresh drinks, and, more critically, reports related to store cleanliness, specifically the presence of pests. New York consumers are encouraged to weigh the praised product quality, which continues to draw a loyal following, against these reported operational and service challenges.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I buy coconut water and cane juice here. Their stuff is good but the old guy with the glasses robs people. They tell you $5 for a coconut. I told him i want 4 coconut he filled two containers with was only 3 coconut and charged me $20. The other guy gives you 4 coconut regardless of how many contain it fills.
April 10 · S KThe bakery is infested with rats I saw two run out the room behind the cashier I guess the room where they make the bread and other pastries. I was paying for my bread and pastries and saw it and told the casher nevermind and walked out. I've been coming here for years and I'm in shocked. Do not come here!! This place is very disgusting and nasty. They also sell everything very expensive compared to Liberty. Go there rather than coming here.
March 29 · Randy PI normally would buy bread from here every week but never again. I went about half an hour before closing on 5/23/2019 to buy bread. There was not a lot of bread items left so I bought one pan bread, a pack of tennis roll, and the only three single butterflaps they had left. When I went home I saw the pan bread had a whole bunch of mold on one side and bottom. The next day, 5/24/2019, I went back and they said I couldn’t have possibly bought it last night. I told her to check the camera and she’s still denying I bought it just the night before. The woman asked if I was sure someone else at home bought the same bread from before. Obviously not, I wouldn’t go through all of that trouble to get a $2 bread replaced. Unprofessional people, when someone nicely tells you a product you sold was growing mold, you should listen first not jump to your ridiculous and inaccurate defense. They offered an exchange which I took. In hindsight I shouldn’t have took the exchange. I wasn’t going to post a review but after I was accused of lying I had too. I will never ever purchase from this store again.
May 24 · Melissa RFreshly squeezed cane juice, nothing like it
March 12 · Mr SinghThis bakery was the ultimate bakery, I’d always go here for all my breads and pastries but as the years go by the owners have downsize on everything, such as the black eye cake they are so small it’s insane what they charge for it, also the bread never stays fresh more than 2 days, it’s like since they gain the trust of the community they have become cheaper with their ingredients, don’t sacrifice quality for quantity your products use to taste much better the cheese rolls barely have cheese the pinthart don’t have much pine in it I’m sorry to leave this review but it’s the truth.
