Hi-Collar Introduce
Located in the heart of the East Village, Hi-Collar offers New Yorkers a truly unique and authentic Japanese dining experience. This intimate and trendy spot masterfully combines two distinct concepts into one seamless venue: a traditional Japanese café, known as a "kissaten," by day, and a chic, sophisticated bar by night. The atmosphere is casual yet cozy, with a cool, retro vibe that transports you to a different time and place. It’s a place where you can sit back and relax, escaping the busy pace of the city while savoring meticulously prepared food and beverages.
The dual identity of Hi-Collar is a key part of its appeal. During the day, it's a haven for coffee enthusiasts and those seeking comfort food with a Japanese twist. The menu features classic kissaten fare like omurice and fluffy hot cakes, paired with an impressive selection of specialty coffees brewed with precision. As the sun sets, the space transforms into a vibrant and lively bar, offering an extensive list of sake, Japanese whiskies, and expertly crafted cocktails. This seamless transition makes Hi-Collar a versatile destination, perfect for a casual lunch, a relaxing afternoon coffee, or a pre-dinner drink.
Despite its small size, which is a nod to its Japanese inspirations, Hi-Collar manages to feel exclusive and inviting. The seating is limited to a dozen-or-so stools at a long bar, allowing guests to watch the baristas and bartenders at work, adding to the immersive experience. The attention to detail extends beyond the food and drinks to the ambiance itself, with curated music and unique, hand-picked dishware that all contribute to the charm. This dedication to providing a complete sensory experience is what makes Hi-Collar a must-visit for anyone looking for something special in New York.
Hi-Collar is conveniently located at 231 E 9th St, New York, NY 10003, USA. This places it in a prime spot within the East Village, a neighborhood known for its vibrant culinary scene and cultural diversity. The location is easily accessible by public transportation, as it is within walking distance of several subway stations and bus stops, making it a convenient destination for people all over the city.
While the restaurant is quite small and can have a wait, it's a worthwhile one. The high demand is a testament to the quality and unique experience it offers. The service options include dine-in, takeout, and delivery, providing flexibility for customers. As a food and beverage destination, Hi-Collar caters to a range of needs, whether you're grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a leisurely meal. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Best omurice! We both loved the hayashi omurice which is more flavorful than the original tomato sauce (not as balanced). Also please come for brunch and order one of their speciality coffees. We had the Hana (very smooth) and some special fermented guava coffee which was absolutely amazing. Very very unique. Long lines without reservations.
May 26 · H LThis restaurant is very cute and I've been meaning to stop by for the pancakes that everyone have been raving about. We ordered omurice, curry and a few other items. The food had good flavors, but it was nothing to write home about. The pancakes were pretty good but took a while to make. I'm not sure they were worth all the hype, but I would certainly eat the pancakes again. Overall: Good food, but expensive. If I come again, I will just order the pancakes.
May 27 · XinWe really enjoy eating here even with a baby.Omurice is amazing, specially the hayashi omurice. The rice is well cooked, nice texture and well combined with the egg and sauce.Dessert is okay compared to the price and the. We appreciate the berry hot cake with light texture and flavor balance more than the matcha (too thick)However, napolitan spaghetti is a fail. Ordered by curious but regret from the first bite. Really salty.Nice atmosphere, you can have little chat with friends without bothering other table.Wish that they have a high chair for baby!
April 30 · Lananh VuThe best brunch in the city! Must try their Hayashi Omurice and Matcha. Service is excellent and the food tastes amazing. Will keep coming back
September 01 · Sabrina UrbanWHAT. A. VIBE! I felt like I was back in Japan when I walked into Hi-Collar. Beautiful atmosphere, amazing staff and great food. We went on a Sunday and they now have Jazz nights! We got to hear some great music while we were eating delicious food and drinking amazing sake. Perfect date night vibe.
