Kombu Introduce
For travelers moving through the newly reimagined Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport, finding a satisfying and authentic meal can be a pleasant surprise. Kombu, a Japanese restaurant located within the food hall, offers a much-needed taste of Asian cuisine. It provides a welcome alternative to the typical airport fast-food options, serving up dishes that are both flavorful and convenient for those on the go. The restaurant’s casual atmosphere and focus on fast service are perfectly tailored to the unique needs of a busy airport environment.
As a Japanese restaurant, Kombu brings a specific type of cuisine to the forefront of airport dining. It's a place where you can find classic dishes that provide a sense of comfort and familiarity. While one customer review mentioned a positive experience with pho, which suggests a broader menu than just Japanese food, the core of the business is its Japanese offerings. The use of self-ordering tablets, as noted in a review, is a modern and efficient feature that streamlines the ordering process, making it a quick and convenient option for travelers with limited time. The staff's positive dynamic and the "warm atmosphere" further contribute to a more enjoyable experience, which is a significant bonus in a place as hectic as an airport. This combination of efficient service, a welcoming environment, and a focus on quality comfort food is what truly sets Kombu apart.
Kombu is located in a prime, easily accessible location within LaGuardia Airport's Terminal C. Its address is LaGuardia Internal Rdwy/Term C Loop Food Hall Gates, C28 - C29, East Elmhurst, NY 11371, USA. This places it directly within the post-security area of the terminal, making it a convenient destination for all ticketed passengers. Its location in a food hall, specifically near Gates C28 and C29, makes it easy to find and access.
The restaurant is designed to be accessible to everyone. With a wheelchair accessible entrance, it ensures that all travelers can visit the establishment with ease. Its setup within a food hall means there is communal seating, offering a space to sit and enjoy a meal without feeling cramped. As a popular spot for "solo dining," it caters to the individual traveler who might want a moment of peace before a flight. The casual atmosphere makes it approachable and comfortable for a wide range of customers, from tourists looking for a taste of something different to locals grabbing a quick, familiar meal.
Kombu provides a focused yet satisfying set of services and offerings tailored to the airport crowd.
Service Options: Kombu offers dine-in service, which provides a designated spot to sit down and enjoy a meal. The emphasis on "fast service" means that even though it’s a sit-down option, the wait time is minimal, which is crucial for travelers needing to catch a flight. The use of self-ordering tablets also enhances the speed and convenience of the service.
Dining Options: The restaurant serves both lunch and dinner, making it a perfect spot for travelers on the go during the main meal periods of the day. This schedule aligns well with typical flight times, ensuring that Kombu is available when most needed.
Highlights: A standout feature is the "fast service," which is essential in a high-turnover environment like an airport. Another highlight is the use of convenient technology like self-ordering tablets, which empowers customers and reduces wait times. The positive and "warm atmosphere" created by the staff's good relationships also adds a layer of comfort and hospitality that is highly valued by customers.
Offerings: The menu includes "comfort food" and "quick bite" options, catering to a range of hunger levels and time constraints. In addition, Kombu offers a selection of "alcohol" and "beer," providing a great way for travelers to unwind before a flight. The menu is designed to be accessible and appealing, with a focus on delivering satisfying food efficiently.
The features of Kombu are what make it a compelling choice for travelers in Terminal C.
Efficient Ordering: The self-ordering tablets are a major highlight. This technology-forward approach not only speeds up the process but also provides a clear, convenient way to customize and place an order without the need for a lengthy interaction with staff. For tourists or those with language barriers, this can be a major benefit.
Quality and Quantity: As one positive review noted, the pho was "delicious," and customers "get your money's worth in quantity and quality." This is a strong statement for an airport restaurant, where high prices are often not matched by quality. It suggests a commitment to providing real value to customers, even at a premium location.
Welcoming Atmosphere: The "casual" atmosphere and the observation that the staff "seemed to get along very well" contribute to a genuinely pleasant and warm environment. This is a significant factor in making the dining experience feel more personal and less like a transactional airport stop.
Flexible Payments: Kombu accepts a variety of payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments. This convenience is crucial for modern travelers who may not be carrying cash and rely on mobile wallets for their purchases.

What is worth choosing from Kombu? The primary reason to choose this restaurant is its unique position as a fast, convenient, and high-quality Japanese dining option in an airport. While there was a negative review concerning specific dishes, other feedback highlights the quality and value of its offerings. For a New Yorker who knows what good Japanese food tastes like, Kombu provides a chance to get a fix of authentic comfort food before departing.
The fast service and efficient self-ordering system are invaluable for anyone on a tight schedule. The "casual" atmosphere and the fact that it is "popular for solo dining" also make it a comfortable and non-intimidating choice for individuals traveling alone. In a sea of generic airport food, Kombu stands out by offering a specific cuisine and delivering it with speed and a welcoming environment. It's a place where a traveler can feel a sense of calm and enjoy a satisfying meal, whether it's a quick bite or a more substantial dish.

September 01 · Victoria IngramHorrible food - the sushi roll for $12 was worse than and day old grocery sushi - I can’t say it had bad flavor because there wasn’t enough fish to even taste the roll. Tried the pad Thai equally bad dish with no flavor at all - avoid this over priced failure of a place.
April 03 · Ron Sterbenz (YellowstoneVideo. com)Got the Pad Thai noodles. Holy sodium. There’s less salt in the ocean. No flavor other than salt. Save your $28
May 05 · Scott BodeRenovated! Wow, LGA has upped it’s game. With the LGA renovations comes a lot more improved food options. We weren’t expecting much from the food court near the Delta terminal C Gates 60-69. All cooked-to-order food kiosks have a screen pad ordering and payment system. We selected Kombu and ordered a beef ramen and California roll. You can watch the chefs making your food. The ramen broth was remarkable good with a good portion of noodle – some of the beef was a little fatty but overall it was a tasty solid dish (let alone for airport food). California roll was well proportioned, roll was a little on the larger side and wrapped inside out but a nice portion of crab and avocado in the roll. Very impressed with quality and taste of food for airport food. Chuko wasn’t nearly as good but was solid for airport food and had a nice seating area. Kombu food was good for any place and we will definitely order from here again. This food court has multiple hot food options - tacos, burgers, ramen and falafel. The Jersey Mike’s was not open – in fact, it looked new like only the counters were installed. So no sandwiches except nasty old pre-made refrigerated sandwiches. We were concerned about how long the hot food would take to prep. Kombu did a good job of preparing the food in a reasonable amount of time.
September 16 · A MThis place is actually closed down but there is another ramen restaurant in Terminal C next to Essex Burger called Chuko Ramen that is phenomenal! I hadn’t had Ramen in about 3 or 4 years and this hit the spot before my flight! I ordered the Sesame Garlic Ramen and it was absolutely delicious! All orders are through the QR codes on the tabe and the food came out pretty quickly! I loved the vibe of the place and was by far one of the better places to eat in the LGA airport!
