Features / Highlights
The distinctive features of La Cocota stem from its unique blend of traditional restaurant and retail functions, providing a layered experience for its customers:
- The Dual Store Model: The combination of an authentic Mexican restaurant and an accompanying Mexican grocery store is a significant highlight. This allows customers to enjoy Mexican dishes prepared by professionals and then purchase the specific ingredients to recreate similar flavors at home.
- Comprehensive Breakfast Menu: While being a Mexican establishment, it excels in a full American-style Breakfast menu, featuring everything from simple Bagels and Eggs on Rolls (starting at $2.75) to heartier options like Stacked Pancakes with meat and cheese (up to $7.00) and French Toast. This broad offering is a major plus for local morning commuters.
- Fresh Beverage Focus: A commitment to health and freshness is seen in the offering of Natural Organic Smoothies and Juices ($6.00). This selection contrasts nicely with the standard Soda and Coffee options ($2.00 each), providing a refreshing, high-quality beverage choice.
- Authentic Mexican Dinner Specialties: The dinner menu showcases genuine, hearty Mexican main courses, including traditional, complex dishes such as Mole De Olla, Chillate De Pollo, Caldo De Pollo, and the warm beverage known as Antole (likely 'Atole,' a traditional thick corn and masa-based drink).
- Signature Mexican Sandwiches: Highlights among the main dishes are the substantial Mexican sandwiches: Tortas ($10.00) and Cemitas ($10.00), which are known for their generous fillings and flavorful ingredients.
- Speed and Efficiency: The designation of Fast service, combined with the availability of multiple quick options like Burgers (starting at $4.00), Salads, and three Tacos for $10.00, underscores its capacity to serve busy New Yorkers efficiently during peak times.

What is Worth Choosing
For a first-time visitor or a frequent local user in New York, the optimal experience at La Cocota lies in leveraging its unique menu diversity and high-quality fresh offerings.
The most compelling choice is to combine the best of both worlds: start with a truly authentic Mexican meal item. Focus on the traditional, slow-cooked dinner specials like the Mole De Olla or the comforting Chillate De Pollo. Alternatively, for a quick and satisfying lunch, the trio of 3 Tacos ($10.00) or one of the massive Cemitas ($10.00) represents excellent value and flavor. These items truly showcase the Mexican restaurant aspect of the business.
To complement the comfort food, it is absolutely worth choosing one of the fresh, high-quality beverages. The Natural Organic Smoothies and Juices ($6.00) are highlighted as a standout feature—a perfect, non-overly sweet contrast to a savory meal. Furthermore, keep an eye out for the unique Mexican beverage, Antole (Atole), especially during cooler months, as this traditional, warm, and thick drink is a true taste of Mexican heritage rarely found in standard NYC delis.
Finally, utilize the Fast service and accessibility for breakfast. Knowing you can quickly grab a solid, customizable Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich or Stacked Pancakes alongside a premium smoothie makes La Cocota an excellent, all-encompassing choice for New Yorkers seeking consistency, variety, and the rare combination of a great local restaurant and an essential ethnic grocery store.

La Cocota Reviews
ricebeans
★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I went today Tuesday at 340pm ordered a rice beans penile platter lunch special for 900 dollars was charged 1000 plus tax when I told them that menu said 9.00 plus tax was told that the menu was old these are the new prices. I told them that they shouldn't have these menus out if they weren't going to honor the price. I thought about leaving it but I don't believe 2 wrongs make a right. So I'm writing this to inform people to be careful where you buy. 1.00 dollar is not going to make me rich but principal of letting know before when I ordered.
May 20 · Jose Ruizsolid bacon egg and cheese they have sandwiches on the menu but will make you anything you’d like also a good fruit smoothie not overly sweet (: a bit on the pricier side but very tasty i paid 15$
July 04 · S RF$2 small jamaica agua frescaAnd they filled it to the top, zero skimping
July 01 · Chasity NunezThe Mole Poblano was average. The yellow rice had no flavor and was raw. And the beans were also tasteless. Also too expensive 16$ for a small plate not worth it.
May 31 · La ChacaGood tamales at a reasonable price 👌 ¡Ay Dios Mio!
