Lucia Pizza Of Avenue X Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Lucia Pizza Of Avenue X is not just another neighborhood pizza joint in Brooklyn; it's a new chapter in a storied family lineage that stretches back over four decades in New York's pizza culture. Located in the heart of the Sheepshead Bay area, this pizzeria brings an elevated New York style to the community, blending time-honored Sicilian and Italian-American recipes with a fresh, modern approach.
The history of Lucia Pizza is deeply rooted in Brooklyn tradition. The owner and head chef, Salvatore Carlino, comes from a family whose roots in pizza-making extend to Sicily and include the ownership of the beloved Papa Leone Pizzeria, which operated in Sheepshead Bay for 43 years before closing upon the retirement of Carlino’s parents. Following a period working abroad, Carlino reignited his passion for pizza, initially using a brick oven in his Long Island backyard to develop the unique style that would become Lucia Pizza. The name 'Lucia' itself, a Latin word for 'Light,' signifies the restaurant's commitment to a more wholesome, 'lighter' New York-style product.
The brick-and-mortar location at 2201 Avenue X opened during the challenging times of the pandemic, offering a beacon of familiar comfort food to the community. It quickly gained recognition for its commitment to quality ingredients, including a tomato sauce described as fresh and bright, and for signature touches like fresh basil and Pecorino tossed on pies as they exit the oven. Lucia Pizza of Avenue X offers a casual and cozy atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for locals and visitors alike to enjoy lunch, dinner, or a quick, quality bite.

What is worth choosing
For New Yorkers eager to taste the next generation of Brooklyn pizza, Lucia Pizza Of Avenue X offers a culinary experience that honors the past while presenting an improved, lighter interpretation of the New York classic. The dedication to a multi-decade family legacy is evident in the quality and flavor of their signature items. A few items are consistently cited as standout choices, making them essential for a first-time visit or for regular rotation.
The unanimous choice for a specialty pie is the Vodka Pie ($27.99). This is the continuation of the family's original recipe from Papa Leone, and its creamy, savory flavor profile is a cornerstone of the restaurant’s history. It is highly praised for its comforting, authentic taste. For those who crave heat and a complex flavor, the Caramelle Piccanti Pie ($32.49), with its combination of cherry peppers and a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey, is a proven crowd-favorite that delivers a perfect balance of sweet and spicy.
However, it's also worth noting that the commitment to craft elevates even the simplest offerings. The NY Plain slice or pie is lauded by customers for its perfectly crispy, thin, and foldable crust, homemade-tasting sauce, and the fresh basil garnish, making it a strong contender for one of the best basic slices in the city. The Margherita Pie, with its delicate balance of sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil, is another excellent measure of their fundamental quality.
Beyond the pizza, the PASTA Ala Vodka Papa Leoni ($23.99) is a nod to the family's past and an excellent choice for a rich, comforting, non-pizza dish. And, as a popular appetizer, the homemade Mozzarella Sticks ($12.99) are heralded by many customers as being some of the best around, offering that perfect textural contrast of a golden crust and melty, fresh interior. Lucia Pizza Of Avenue X truly offers a taste of family history and an exciting evolution of New York pizza.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I came here because of bozo influencers overhyping everything. My buddy and I first ordered a vodka slice and a plain cheese. We were both disappointed, considering all the over promising, and almost left to go someplace else. Pizza Time and Krispy Pizza both make better vodka sauce in my opinion, but we wanted to try the Piccanti. Those same influencers said it was an off menu item and we had to ask, like it’s a big secret. Wrong, it’s on the menu and has been for years. This isn’t Lucia’s fault at all. Here is the issue though; the Piccanti ($27) has a vodka sauce base, and has pepperoni and hot cherry peppers. I asked for the Piccanti but with regular tomato sauce and one side just pepperoni. Apparently that’s not an option so I had to order a pepperoni pie ($26) which has a tomato base and then add the Piccanti toppings on the other half. Okay I thought, same outcome but it wasn’t until I went to pay that I found out it cost an additional $5 which came out to $31 plus tax. So basically I had to pay $4 more than a full Piccanti costs and received half the toppings just cause I wanted a tomato base. Mind you, everywhere you go a vodka pie is more expensive than a plain cheese. If anything it should have been less than $27 but I would never assume that. Just seems like a weird system they have in place if you want to customize an order.Anyway, the Piccanti redeemed the experience. We both agreed it was very good 9/10. We had a third buddy who was at work and we brought him the pepperoni slices. He can’t handle spicy peppers at all which is the reason we needed one side half pep only. He gave it an 8.7. Would I come back here? Probably not, unless I was in the area. L’Industrie, Pizza Time, Luigi’s, and Krispy are tastier Brooklyn options. I’m glad I got to try another Brooklyn hot spot though.
August 01 · Joseph AA simple and cozy place with very friendly staff. I had the classic New York Plain pizza - the crust was perfectly crispy, the topping juicy. You can really taste that it’s made with heart.
August 08 · Gina RAFirst off, have the decency to tell people what comes on top of certain slices. They gave me basically some garlic water sauce all over my mushroom slice and it's not needed and was put on horribly... that sauce literally taste like garlic flavored water. It's disgusting and needs maybe some salt? Def needs salt in the very least. Maybe today's batch was off.Second, and this is just based off my visit today(9/17) but the vibe inside is dead. The folks working today were miserable. The guys preparing slices just slid mine across small counter area and found it no issue to give me my slices in a ripped bag. I even pre-tipped lol and was kind and smiled.I will say the guy behind register did thank me as I walked out, so that was appreciated. I just felt like customers were a bother to the man preparing slices and pies.. which, after reading other reviews, def seems like the normal here. Customers feeling more like a bother than an actual paying customer.Would also be great to see the owner be proactive with the negative reviews because it seems like things haven't changed.
