In a city saturated with incredible food options, a dessert shop that feels less like a store and more like an art gallery is a rare and special find. Lysée, located at 44 E 21st St in the Flatiron District, is precisely this kind of establishment. Helmed by a Michelin-starred chef, this dessert shop redefines the experience of enjoying sweets, presenting each pastry as a work of "edible art." For New Yorkers who appreciate the finer things in life, Lysée offers an elegant and sophisticated escape, a place where artistry and flavor are perfectly balanced in every single bite.
Lysée is more than just a place to satisfy your sweet tooth; it's a destination for a culinary experience. The pastries are a blend of French, Korean, and New York influences, reflecting the unique journey of its founder, Chef Eunji Lee. This creative fusion results in an innovative menu that features both classic techniques and surprising, delightful flavor combinations. Patrons consistently praise the desserts for being "light, elegant, and never overly sugary," a key distinction from many other bakeries. The menu, which includes signature items like the "LYSÉE" cake and the highly-praised "CORN" dessert, showcases a dedication to craftsmanship and a meticulous attention to detail.
Beyond the stunning pastries, Lysée’s atmosphere is a significant part of its charm. It’s described as a "boutique-style, clean, and refreshingly non-commercialized" space that feels intimate and cozy. The thoughtful design, which incorporates elements of traditional Korean architecture, creates a harmonious environment that enhances the appreciation of the desserts. While seating may be limited, this only adds to the exclusive and intimate feel of the place. It's a perfect spot for a leisurely afternoon treat or a quiet moment of indulgence away from the city's hustle.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Lysée, created by a Michelin-starred chef, is truly one of Manhattan’s gems. The dessert gallery feels like edible art - each piece is light, elegant, and never overly sugary. The croissants are the best I’ve ever had in my life - perfectly flaky, buttery, and unforgettable. The space is boutique-style, clean, and refreshingly non-commercialized. Deserts are available to-go. Seating is limited and the tables are small, but that only adds to its intimate charm. Service on my visit was excellent, even though I’ve seen mixed reviews.Overall, Lysée has become my absolute favorite bakery in Manhattan - a place where artistry and flavor come together in every bite.
August 19 · Lana B.Gorgeous bakery with gorgeous and delicious pastries. The best are definitely the Lysee cake(?) and Corn cake(?). They also have a flower shaped shortbread(?) with chocolate cream that was buttery and delicious. Fruit tarts (peach and mango) were great but not really my thing. Chocolate *is* my thing and the V.I.C. was rich and decadent. The croissant with ice cream on top was phenomenal. I wish I’d taken photos of it all - we shared most of it and didn’t get a chance for some of it.
September 01 · Em ChaEverything I tried in this Korean cafe was delicious. The cakes are not very sweet and very light. The space is small so reservations are highly recommended. They have a gallery like space upstairs to display their cakes and for takeout orders.
September 11 · Cody ChowMy top picks are the Signature Mousse Cake Lysée – the roasted Korean brown rice mousse brings a lovely nutty crunch, paired with pecan and praline, and a touch of savory cream that keeps it rich yet not heavy – and the Corn Mousse Cake, which is playful in presentation and luxuriously smooth in taste. Portions are just right for two to share, especially since both lean slightly savory.Seating is limited with small tables; on weekdays it’s fine, but for weekends, booking ahead is a smart move. The price is on the higher side, but those two cakes are worth every bite.
August 07 · E. YThe restaurant itself is beautiful and the service was excellent - such friendly and attentive staff! It’s definitely on the pricey side, more so than is expected for Manhattan even. We ordered the signature menu which included 4 desserts for about $80 including tip. The corn mousse was my personal favorite but my friend loved the peach tart! I would recommend swapping out the normal kouigin amann for the one with ice cream if you’re also ordering the signature menu. The gallery upstairs is mostly a photo op but also provides a live inventory of items before you order. Definitely make a reservation if you plan to eat here as there are only about 5 tables inside total. I’m happy we went to explore and the desserts were delicious, even though it could be a better value for the price!
