Very affordable. I come here with my friends and it’s always nice. There’s a variety of options to order except for the soup options, but that’s okay since I always stick to the tomato soup base. The only downside is that they don’t give you a lot of noodles. Instead, I typically always see a lot of toppings. They give you such little noodles that you can’t even see it when you first receive your bowl.(For the photos I had to scoop the noodles up) - Becky Yang

Menu Features and Culinary Highlights

The menu at Mala Town is extensive, showcasing the complex, vibrant flavors of Sichuan cuisine while providing satisfying non-spicy options and delectable sweets. The offerings are built around providing substantial portions of Comfort food, whether through a main dish or flavorful Small plates and Quick bites.

  • Signature Malatang: The star of the menu, the Signature Malatang, is a highly customizable and flavorful spicy soup base. This is the centerpiece of the restaurant and a reason many customers visit. It allows for a personal selection of ingredients to be boiled in a rich, spicy broth.
  • Spicy Sichuan Staples: For those who love the heat, the Sichuan Spicy Skewer offers another traditional way to enjoy regional spice. Other fiery favorites include Sichuan Spicy Wonton In Chili Oil and the classic Hot And Sour Noodle, which can be elevated with Fatty Beef.
  • Unique Soup Offerings: Beyond Malatang, the menu features rich, slow-cooked Cantonese-style soups perfect for a nutritious meal, such as Ginseng Chicken Soup, Duck With Dried Tea Tree Mushroom Soup, and Ox Tail Mushroom Soup.
  • Entrees and Noodles: Satisfying main courses include the Mushroom And Pork Sauce Noodle Soup (or dry noodle version), Eel Over Rice, and simple but fresh vegetable sides like Sauteed Water Spinach. Customer reviews highlight the pork and mushroom dry noodles for their great flavors.
  • Appetizers and Cold Dishes: Perfect for Small plates and sharing, the appetizers include familiar items like Fried Chicken Wing and Popcorn Chicken, alongside traditional Cold Dishes such as the refreshing Jellyfish Head With Chili Sauce and the highly praised Cold Dish of Arctic Surf Clams With Chili Sauce and Ox Tripes In Chili Sauce. A customer review specifically noted the cold jellyfish salad (likely one of the jellyfish or clam dishes) for its "perfect balance of tangy vinegar and heat."
  • Dessert Specialties: The Dessert restaurant aspect shines with options like the decadent, multi-layered Matcha Crepe Cake and Mango Crepe Cake, along with the lighter, creamy Coconut Pudding.
  • Beverages: A wide selection of drinks, including the popular Iced Milk Tea, Coconut Juice, and the herbal Wong Lo Kat, are available, along with Alcohol offerings.

It is important for customers to note a common piece of feedback: while the toppings and ingredients are plentiful and flavorful, some patrons have observed that the noodle to topping ratio in their bowls is sometimes imbalanced, with a focus on generous amounts of toppings and less visible noodles. This means the dish is rich in flavor and texture from the ingredients, but noodle lovers might want to manage their expectations regarding the quantity of the actual noodles provided.
