Mamasushi Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For New Yorkers seeking a truly unique and flavor-forward dining experience that defies typical categories, Mamasushi stands out as a must-visit destination. Located right on the buzzing Dyckman Street in Upper Manhattan’s Inwood neighborhood, Mamasushi isn't just another Japanese or sushi restaurant; it’s a pioneering establishment that has brilliantly fused the delicate art of Japanese cuisine with the bold, vibrant flavors of Latin culture. This distinctive blend, often celebrated as Japanese and Latin Fusion, is the cornerstone of its identity, delivering unexpected and delicious combinations that have made it a local favorite and a magnet for groups, college students, and tourists alike.
The menu at Mamasushi is a compelling narrative of this fusion. While offering high-quality traditional sushi items—from standard Nigiri & Sashimi (Tuna, Salmon, Yellow Tail) and Traditional Rolls (California, Spicy Tuna, Eel Avocado Roll)—its true creativity shines in the House Rolls. These signature creations, with names that reflect local culture and flair (like the '5 Tigueres' or the 'Mar Y Tierra Roll'), showcase unique ingredient pairings and preparation styles that are both visually stunning and packed with flavor. The menu depth goes far beyond raw fish, incorporating a complete Steak program with high-quality cuts like the 12 Oz. New York Strip and the 10 Oz. Hanger Steak, as well as other main courses such as Lamb Chops, Grilled Salmon, and even a fusion Kobe Burger.
As a full-service restaurant, Mamasushi provides extensive dining flexibility, serving Brunch, Lunch, and Dinner, and offering late-night food options to cater to the Dyckman nightlife. The atmosphere is specifically designed to be appealing, described as Casual, Cozy, Romantic, Trendy, and Upscale, making it suitable for any occasion, from a casual quick bite to a special date night. Complemented by a Bar onsite with a reputation for a Great wine list, Great beer selection, and Great cocktails, Mamasushi delivers a comprehensive experience where the food is superb, the drinks are exceptional, and the ambiance encourages a memorable time. While the upscale nature of the cuisine and experience is reflected in the pricing—often noted by customers—the unique flavor profiles and high energy make it a worthwhile splurge for those seeking out unique dishes and a fantastic overall dining environment in New York.
This commitment to blending the best of both worlds—the precision of Japanese preparation with the zest of Latin ingredients—ensures Mamasushi remains a highlight of Upper Manhattan’s culinary scene. Whether you are craving the comfort of a Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box or the excitement of a completely new sushi roll like El Pulpo Loco, Mamasushi’s menu promises a journey for the palate, all delivered with fast service in a hip, dynamic setting.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I ordered one spring roll and one California roll to-go—$28 total! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind spending money on good food, and I’ve eaten at plenty of quality sushi restaurants. But at most legit spots, a California roll runs about $10–11, and spring rolls around $8–9, even for the nicer versions. Here? The prices are just way too high for what you get. I picked up the food and ran back to my car—only to open the box and realize it looked more like a kids’ meal. Seriously, the portion was tiny.I did tip the waitress because that’s just what I do, but overall, this felt more like a place to grab a drink than to sit down for a satisfying sushi meal. Just a heads-up to anyone thinking of bringing their family here—definitely check the menu and prices first. A family of four could easily end up with a $$$$ bill. This is just my personal opinion, but for the price, I expected more.
July 18 · german HernandezSuperb latin and japanese fusion spot. Really nice ambiance, has both indoor and outdoor seating. There are some very unique dishes. I ordered the 5 Tigueres signature sushi dish with a side of yuca fries. So delicious and packs a lot flavor! Service was great and had a great experience overall.
August 16 · Najeeb AbdullahThis location wasn’t like the others the vibe is a more later vibe than the others. I’m guessing because of the area. Overall cool spot it was the first one got way bigger than how it use to be. Still good staff is more strict on things I didn’t understand here but it was ok. Nothing to change the experience. The dj did play music for outside not inside that was a bit wired but also ok. The food is always great at mamasushi vibe was cool I would suggest going after 5 on a Sunday better atmosphere. Drinks was good no real brunch menu or special I think that’s a miss the one in the Bronx does offer brunch. But overall cool day
July 28 · ImBroke RobThis is a non-sushi review. Salad with salmon, kobe burger were good, slight deduction for atmosphere, the electro-pop music was a bit too heavy for Sunday brunch.
July 26 · Joe VaradiWas my 1st time here, and I can't complain about it. Was easy to find parking since I went early, the food and drinks were really good. Good service. I would recommend trying the jack veneno since it was my favorite roll.
