MATCHA HOUSE Introduce
In the vibrant and bustling neighborhood of the East Village, MATCHA HOUSE offers a unique and dedicated experience for lovers of this traditional Japanese green tea. As an Asian and women-owned business, MATCHA HOUSE is not just another cafe; it's a place built on a deep passion for the craft of matcha. The owner, Michelle, is known for her inspiring story and her commitment to quality, which is evident in every cup. While some cafes might treat matcha as a simple trend, MATCHA HOUSE focuses on excellence, from the sourcing of their high-quality tea to the meticulous preparation of each drink. This dedication sets them apart and creates a truly authentic and satisfying beverage that stands out in the city's crowded cafe scene.
The menu at MATCHA HOUSE goes beyond the basic matcha latte, offering a creative and delicious array of options that cater to different tastes. You can find traditional Uji blend matchas, as well as fun and inventive combinations like macadamia matcha and chocolate matcha. Patrons appreciate the variety of milk selections, including lactose-free options, which shows a thoughtful consideration for different dietary needs. This commitment to customer preference, combined with the quality of the ingredients, ensures that everyone can find a drink they love. Whether you're a long-time matcha enthusiast or new to its world, the variety and quality at MATCHA HOUSE make it a worthwhile destination to explore and find your new favorite drink. The drinks are not only delicious but also beautifully crafted, served in ceramics that make you want to photograph them, adding to the overall aesthetic and enjoyable experience.
While the cafe is noted for its occasional inefficiency, particularly during busy times like a Saturday morning, the quality of the matcha itself remains consistently high. The space is described as being a bit cramped, which is a common reality in many popular New York spots, but for a quick visit or a serene moment, the quality of the beverage is the main draw. One customer praised the perfect blend of matcha flavor and milk creaminess, highlighting the meticulous craft that goes into each drink. The passion of the owner for her craft is palpable and is a strong reason why patrons are keen to return. For those in the city looking for a cafe that truly cares about the art of its primary offering, MATCHA HOUSE is a gem that is worth seeking out.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1For a place with a matcha assembly line, they are somehow so inefficient lol. But the matchas decent lol. It’s just so crammed and unpleasant in there haha. Like on a Saturday morning… not the place I wanna be.They have macadamia matcha and chocolate matcha and some other fun ones. I also really appreciate the milk selection!! Even lactose free!!!
September 15 · Cassia AIf you're looking for a serene place to enjoy delicious matcha, this is it. I ordered a matcha latte (uji blend) with macadamia milk, and it was perfect. It was a great blend of the flavor of matcha and the creaminess of the milk. If I wasn't sensitive to caffeine, I would have ordered more drinks to try, like their chocolate matcha or their matcha cortado. While I don't live in the area, I most certainly will come back. I met the owner Michelle, and her story is inspiring. She truly cares about the craft of matcha, and it shows in her drinks. I look forward to see how far she'll go and my next visit!P.S. There's no bathroom available but the bathroom at the public library 2 blocks away was clean!
August 18 · Charlene YungHands down my favorite matcha in the city! The matcha lattes with flavors are well balanced so that they don’t over power the matcha but work well together in perfect harmony. They also have great customer service & Asian flavored pastries.
August 06 · Diarra RaymondI went yesterday, but found myself back around Matcha House again today… and I have no regrets!Matcha House is the new matcha spot in East Village. With a minimalistic interior and streamlined menu, they focus on what they do best —matcha. Yesterday, I got their daily special: the matcha cold foam matcha latte, which was surprisingly smooth, creamy, while not being too bitter or sweet!Today, I tried their daily special, which was the earl grey cold foam matcha latte, which was such a good combo! The earl grey didn’t overpower or drown out the matcha at all, and the two flavors complimented each other well. There’s agave on the counter for those who like their matcha sweeter, but they’ve nailed their sweetness ratio in my opinion.Another thing to keep in mind is that there’s a good amount of seating, which is laptop friendly, but I don’t think there’s a bathroom.I’ll definitely be back! I’m curious to see what other daily specials they have to offer in the future. I’m just happy that there’s another solid matcha spot I can go to, that’s a small business too!
August 01 · CeciI finally found a matcha house that serves matcha with the perfect tea-to-milk ratio!!They serve matcha in three styles: Latte, Cortado, and Americano. If you usually find matcha lattes too milky like I do, go for the Cortado! They are currently using single origin matcha from Uji, which is actually my favorite one from their matcha tasting event earlier. Most importantly, Michelle and her team have poured so much thought and love into creating this community space, from the handmade matcha bowls to the decorating plants.*Matcha Cortado $6.5*Matcha Latte $7I personally really liked the cortado, which was apparently much stronger in matcha flavor as you can tell from the vibrant deep green. I could feel my heart race lol.You can choose from whole, oat, soy, almond, and lactose-free milk. We tried oat and lactose-free: the oat (they use Oatly Barista Edition) is creamier, while the lactose-free option (Fairlife) is highly recommended by the team as a great milk substitute.*Strawberry Cold Foam Matcha Latte $8.5The strawberry foam blended with the matcha well so that it didn't overshadow the matcha. I could taste both elements in one sip. It was also subtly sweet, with a fresh strawberry flavor that shines through.*Strawberry Mochi (by Pavlo Mochi) $5.5*Miso Pistachio Pound Cake (by Patisserie Fouet) $6.5The light bites menu is small but thoughtfully curated. The mochi was super soft and squishy, while the miso and pistachio flavor combo was an unexpected surprise.
