For New Yorkers in the know, Midwood Flats represents the quintessential neighborhood establishment—it’s the place you choose when you want excellent, honest food, great drinks, and a comfortable setting without the pretense of Manhattan’s pricier spots. What truly makes it worth choosing are a few key elements that consistently delight patrons.
Firstly, the food quality is a clear highlight. While described as a gastropub, the menu transcends typical bar fare. The Midwood Burger is widely praised as being exceptional—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly constructed. For non-meat eaters or those seeking lighter options, the Bean and Quinoa Burger is a high-quality alternative. However, the unexpected star of the menu remains the Potato Nachos, an appetizer that customers rave about for its housemade chips and balanced toppings. If you visit, starting with this dish is highly recommended.
Secondly, the commitment to a strong drink selection is evident. The bar offers a thoughtful selection of spirits, particularly a noted array of bourbon, whiskey, and Scotch, alongside a rotating tap list of craft beers. This variety ensures that every patron, from the casual beer drinker to the serious cocktail enthusiast, will find a high-quality option to enjoy. The Happy Hour meals are a fantastic value proposition, providing an affordable way to enjoy a full dinner and a quality cocktail.
Finally, the atmosphere and service seal the deal. Midwood Flats is intentionally cozy and welcoming—a rustic-chic space designed for relaxation and community. The staff are frequently described in reviews as "inviting" and providing "excellent service." This level of hospitality is a crucial ingredient in why the bar has remained a local favorite for so many years. It's the ideal spot for a post-work drink, a weekend brunch, or a late-night bite, especially if you value a low-key, friendly environment where you’re treated like a local from the moment you walk in. It’s a solid bar spot. The food was good and the service was excellent. Inviting staff always makes you want to come back. They were also hosting a Love Island viewing later in the week so they have fun events. All in all it’s worth a try.
September 14 · AneishaMidwood Flats has such a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The café might be a bit old, but that just adds to its charm, and the interior is really pleasant. I absolutely loved my skillet; it was cooked to perfection. The pumpkin ale was excellent—rich and flavorful. We’ll definitely be coming back again for more. A great spot if you're looking for good food and a relaxed vibe!
September 27 · Iryna ShchukinaWe ordered the bottomless brunch (which came with one entree and unlimited beer/ cocktails off their brunch menu.) I ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and my bf got the biscuits and gravy.Everything was sooo good and worth the $35! The sandwich and biscuits and gravy were very filling. It seemed like one person was working that Sunday afternoon, but he tried his best to get to us as much as possible. All in all, I would definitely recommend!
August 08 · JustineA relaxed and chill bar. The staff was warm and we were welcomed to stay long after our drinks were over. Along with the round of nicely curated draft beers we ordered the potato nachos which were delicious. In beers I would highly recommend their Stout and Ciders if you like those. The ambience is nice with good music, booths, and bar chairs.
