Mom's Momo Introduce
In the culturally rich neighborhood of Jackson Heights, Queens—a true culinary crossroads of New York City—Mom's Momo stands out as a beloved destination for authentic Tibetan cuisine. This casual eatery has carved out a dedicated following among locals and city visitors alike, largely due to its commitment to the most iconic Himalayan comfort food: the momo, or Tibetan dumpling.
For New Yorkers seeking a genuine taste of the region, Mom's Momo is a crucial stop. The restaurant specializes in "Authentic Handmade Tibetan Momo," offering a focused menu that allows them to perfect their craft. Available in classic preparations like steamed or fried, and with traditional fillings like Beef, Chicken, and Veggie, these dumplings are the heart and soul of the establishment. The highly flavorful, juicy momos are often hailed as some of the best in the city, an accolade particularly meaningful in a neighborhood known as a hub for Himalayan food.
Beyond the perfect dumpling, Mom's Momo is also a destination for the unique and often spicy Tibetan cold-dish, "Yellow Laphing." This specialty, a cold mung bean noodle-like dish with an intense chili and spice profile, provides a contrast in texture and temperature to the hot, comforting momo. The establishment’s dedication to these key Tibetan staples, combined with a simple, casual atmosphere and very reasonable pricing, makes it a popular choice for a satisfying and quick meal. It is well-regarded for providing "Comfort food" and a "Quick bite," catering to the fast-paced life of New Yorkers while delivering genuinely flavorful, authentic dishes.

What is Worth Choosing at Mom's Momo
For a New Yorker looking for an affordable, authentic, and highly-flavored culinary experience, Mom's Momo in Jackson Heights is worth choosing, particularly for those who appreciate handmade quality and intense flavors.
Firstly, you must choose the Momo. This is the cornerstone of the restaurant’s menu and reputation. Whether you opt for the classic "Chicken Momo" or the flavorful "Beef Momo" in the traditional steamed form, or the "Fried MoMo" for a crispy exterior, the experience hinges on the quality of the handmade dumpling and its savory filling. A highly-rated strategy is to order a mix (like the Beef Fried MoMo) to sample the different preparations. Crucially, do not forget to generously dip your momos into the accompanying sauce—it’s considered a highlight and enhances the entire dish.
Secondly, the Yellow Laphing is a must-try for the adventurous diner. This cold, spicy Tibetan street food offers a taste of culinary authenticity that goes beyond the familiar. While its cold nature may be unexpected (a customer noted they reheated it, but it’s traditionally cold), the unique texture and the powerful, numbing spice profile—often a result of Sichuan peppercorns—is a flavor adventure that defines the depth of Tibetan street food available in Queens.
In short, Mom's Momo offers a highly focused menu that excels at its specialty. It’s an essential destination for a "Quick bite" or a "Solo dining" experience, where you can enjoy world-class, authentic dumplings and spicy specialties at a price point that keeps it accessible to everyone in New York City. For the best value and flavor, prioritize the dumplings and their incredible dipping sauce.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This was my first time trying Tibetan food at Mom’s Momo, and while it was interesting, I wasn’t crazy about it.I ordered the beef fried momos and yellow laphing. The momos had a nice crispy exterior and decent flavor, but the filling felt inconsistent—some bites were just the dumpling wrapper without much meat inside. The yellow laphing was unique. I didn’t realize it’s meant to be served cold, so I reheated it, but it still tasted good. It came with a dipping sauce that numbed the spice (probably from Sichuan peppercorns), which helped tone down the heat. Without the sauce, it was pretty spicy.Overall, the food was okay, but nothing blew me away. It was a decent introduction to Tibetan cuisine, but I’m not sure I’d rush back.
February 19 · Keith KI’ve been to NYC many times, but these Momos were some of the best things I’ve ever eaten in the city. The dipping sauce that comes with it is extraordinary. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend taking a trip out to Queens to try these.
April 02 · IPWAmazing steamed momos. I’ll have to try the fried next time, but the steamed were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The lahping was great too, but the momos were a better choice. Extremely quick service and very kind people. Highly recommend it!
September 04 · Owen LA momo is basically a soup dumpling thats fried. This food truck has momos in steam ovens so it takes very little time to get your food. Anyone who has gone to a restaurant and ordered soup dumplings know that you will often get them after you are almost done with your main course. The dumplings came out quick, it was juicy and delicious. And good bargain. You will find many other momo places in Jackson Heights. Maybe some are better but if you don’t want to risk it, this is a dependable place to get good dumplings at a good value.
March 03 · Johnny BThis cart should be removed for health code violations! Got 2 orders of momos and he gave me expired white sauce. Plus he refused to just give me new momos. He threw a tantrum and said call my boss. Disputing behavior and food. Stay away
