★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A popular Danish bakery, and while my experience was mostly enjoyable, there were a few mixed moments.I tried the Cinnamon Swirl which I had high hopes for, given the bakery's reputation. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a letdown. The swirl looked beautiful with its golden brown layers and cinnamon sugar dusting, but the texture was noticeably dry. It lacked the moist, buttery richness that I was expecting from such a pastry, which made it somewhat underwhelming. However, what redeemed the visit was the Vanilla Cream Cheese Spandauer - an absolute must-try. This was light, flaky layers filled with smooth, rich vanilla cream cheese. The sweetness was perfectly balanced, and the creaminess paired wonderfully with the crisp pastry shell. It was indulgent without being overly sweet, and I would come back just for this alone. The bakery itself has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a wide range of tempting pastries and sandwiches.Entrance faces south east and it is wheelchair accessible. Clean restrooms. In conclusion, while my experience didn’t quite hit the mark for me, I would still recommend this place for anyone seeking quality baked goods. I’ll definitely be returning to try more of their offerings!
September 08 · Naveen DevarajPlace was empty when I arrived. Ordered the turkey sausage roll and a cortado. The roll was below average so was the coffee. Service was ok. Cafe was clean.
May 12 · Sharif ShaI’m a big fan of Ole & Steen and always have great experiences at the Union Square and Upper East Side locations. Unfortunately, this particular branch has been consistently disappointing. It’s the closest one to my office, which is the only reason I kept going back despite poor service. One time I paid for a cinnamon social, only to be told after the transaction that it was unavailable, and I was offered a chocolate social instead. While I paused to decide, two employees laughed and whispered to each other while looking directly at me—extremely unprofessional. The same employee from that interaction — at least one of them (usually there around lunchtime, wearing a hat) has repeatedly forgotten my order even after I’ve paid. She’s usually not making the drink and is on the bakery side or working as a cashier. It’s happened enough times that I feel compelled to leave this review. Another time — I saw an employee on the phone behind the counter and was handling pastry after they got off the phone. Immediately. Ugh.I won’t be returning to this location. The service here is far below the standard I’ve come to expect from the brand. What a shame…
July 31 · Jessica WThe photo is beautiful - I ended up getting a Matcha and a strawberry tart. The strawberry was very yummy and the cream was delicious with the pairing of the strawberry. However, the crust itself was very nutty, which may not be a problem with some, but it did make it dry. The Matcha itself is not good if you’re looking for something that does taste like Maca not water down/ milked down I wouldn’t recommend you getting the matcha here. It was very much milk down and didn’t taste anything like Matcha just literal milk. However, the atmosphere was very nice and there was a lot of seating, especially in the city where you can never find any so it was very surprising and nice that they did have that available even though they were a lot of people there. When ordering the stuff was very friendly. But again, I would not recommend the matcha here. Other than that, it was alright.
May 03 · Danielle SatoMy daughter and I had a ham and cheese toastie on the most amazing bread. It was light and crunchy and perfectly balanced with the ham and cheese.I had a latte with half and half, and it was the best coffee I have had since being in the USA.While there was plenty of seating, it was a little frustrating to see people sitting at tables for 4 people when they could have taken a single. We had to cram around a table for 2, and there were 3 of us.The table was dirty, and I had to clean it up myself. The music was nice and they had a restroom. The service was slow, and the server was disinterested. Otherwise, it would have been 5 stars.
