Raon Introduce
In the heart of New York City's vibrant dining scene, Raon stands out as a unique and elevated Korean restaurant. This isn't your typical Korean barbecue joint; it's a destination for a truly special and memorable culinary experience. Raon, whose name means "joyful" or "amusing" in Korean, lives up to its name by offering a meticulously curated 10-course tasting menu that is both impressive and educational. The restaurant’s philosophy is to elevate Korean cuisine, with a particular focus on kimchi, the beloved staple that is often relegated to a side dish. Here, kimchi takes center stage, thoughtfully paired with each course to highlight its complex flavors and textures.
Raon is the second venture from the talented husband-and-wife team, Chef Soogil Lim and Sasook Youn, who are also behind the renowned Korean French restaurant Soogil in the East Village. With Raon, they dive deeper into their Korean heritage, utilizing traditional techniques and ingredients to create modern, artfully presented dishes. The ambiance is designed to be cozy and trendy, with mood lighting and a minimalist aesthetic that creates a relaxing, almost spa-like feel. From the moment you are greeted at the door to the final course, every detail is carefully considered to provide a dining experience of the highest quality.

Raon is located at 207 E 59th St, New York, NY 10022, USA, placing it in the bustling and convenient Midtown East neighborhood. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The service was amazing. We went for our anniversary and not only did they have a nice sign handmade for us, they also baked a small cake for us as service. All the servers were very professional and their service quality was of the highest. The vibe was chill. There was music in the background but not too loud. The mood lighting and the dark decor along with the music gave a relaxing fancy spa kind of feel. The food was overall impressive and unique. The kimchi pairing was pretty interesting and educational. Every course was delicious and well-prepared. Some dishes I wished were different but I would chalk it up as my personal preferences.Had a great meal here and would recommend if you’re looking for an off the beaten path interpretation of Korean cuisine.
August 30 · Paul CheongA beautiful minimalist dining room with counter for Chef Soogil's elevated Korean tasting menu! Each course is paired with a kimchi and the meal is almost an education on fermentation. Every dish was impeccably executed with precision, and each course was a work of art. Every course also tasted amazing, with familiar Korean flavors alongside French technique. This restaurant is star worthy and one of the best meals I've had this past year. Loved the play on traditional Korean dishes.
May 19 · Restaurant GroupieI have been waiting for RAON to be opened whenever I pass the place on the way back home from the work. The place has warm atmosphere. It was such an exciting dining experience to have the beautifully desiged 10 couses of tasting memu. Plating, ingredients, design and tastes were absolutely magnificent. Each courses go with Korean authentic accent such as Kimchi and Jang although they appear to be elegant French plates. The service was also great that make me feel welcomed and comfortable enough during the dining.I don't usually eat that much for dinner, but this time I felt very comfortable and healthy after the dining. I would love to visit RAON again in near future.
March 09 · Sehwa Kimyou can't make this place upatmospherically cozy, but clearly elevated cuisine. so many times during this meal the only word i could say is wowchef soogil + team demonstrated taste and craft in the menu they've curated, the space they've designed, the drinks they've mixedyou will leave this place feeling full and happythank you for helping me celebrate my wife's birthday!!! it was a special one
August 30 · Stephen ChungI celebrated my birthday at Raon this past Saturday evening, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance exuded elegance with a touch of exclusivity, thanks to its limited seating—just 14 at the chef’s counter and a few at the bar . This intimate setting made the evening feel both special and relaxed. The 10-course tasting menu, priced at $255 per person, is a masterful journey through Korean culinary traditions, with each dish thoughtfully paired with various styles of kimchi . The kimchi pairings were not only innovative but also highlighted the depth and versatility of this staple ingredient. The wine and spirit pairings, curated by sommelier Hak Soo Kim, formerly of Per Se and Jungsik, added layers of complexity and surprise to the meal - Sherry with Korean? Loved it.Chef Soogil Lim and his wife, Sasook Youn, have created a space that reflects their deep appreciation for Korean cuisine and culture . Their attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the handcrafted tableware sourced from Korean artists to the impeccable service. While the price point is around $1,000 for two with full pairings, for those accustomed to and appreciative of high-end dining experiences, Raon delivers exceptional value. It’s a culinary adventure that delights the senses and leaves a lasting impression. For anyone seeking a unique and refined dining experience in NYC, Raon is a must-visit.
