What is worth choosing
Sami's Kabab House is worth choosing for its exceptional food quality and authentic flavors. The highlight for many is the lamb chops, which are perfectly cooked and so flavorful that even those who are typically not fans of lamb are won over. The Uzbeki Qabuli Pulao, a national Afghan dish featuring a tender lamb shank over a bed of sweet rice with carrots and raisins, is another must-try. The rice itself, often a simple side at other restaurants, is a standout dish here—savory, fragrant, and perfectly complemented by the other elements on the plate.
Beyond the meat, Sami's offers robust vegetarian options that are equally as delicious. The Borani Banjan, with its layers of fried eggplant and garlic yogurt sauce, is a vegetarian delight that is packed with flavor. The Mantu dumplings, whether with meat or as a vegetarian dish, are another popular choice that showcases the unique and comforting side of Afghan cooking. The combination of huge portions, reasonable prices, and high-quality ingredients makes dining here feel like a true find in the city. The no-frills, casual atmosphere is part of its charm, letting the food speak for itself. While some have noted the automatic service charge for dine-in parties, the friendly staff and exceptional food quality make the overall experience a memorable and positive one. For a taste of authentic, flavorful, and hearty Afghan cuisine, Sami’s Kabab House is an excellent choice for a meal you’ll be talking about long after you leave.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Delicious food, huge portions, reasonable prices. This is what dining SHOULD be and is so hard to find in NYC these days. The huge pile of stewed spinach, the savory rice, dessert-like shaved carrots, the dumplings, the green tea with cardamom. Every bit of it was smashing. I’ve a strong appetite and had plenty of leftovers. The vibe is traditional and no frills. So don’t walk in expecting someone to pamper you.
June 14 · Dustin IrwinThis was my third time visiting Sami’s Kabab House, but my first time at the LIC location. I’m happy to say the food remains just as consistent and delicious as I remember. I always order the lamb chops, and they never disappoint. The flavors are rich and bold, and the meat is perfectly cooked every single time. I’m usually not a big fan of lamb because of its gaminess, but the way they prepare it here completely changes that. You wouldn’t even know it’s lamb if someone didn’t tell you.I also love their seasoned rice, which pairs so well with the Qabuli, a sweet pickled carrot and raisin side dish that adds a nice contrast to the savory meat. Everything on the plate feels well thought out and balanced. Now for the downsides. The space is quite small and can get stuffy, and the strong smell of grilled meat tends to linger. I left smelling like food, so I probably wouldn’t recommend coming here if you have other plans right after. It’s best enjoyed when you can head straight home after. The biggest surprise was the 20% service charge that was automatically added to our bill. It was clearly stated on the menu, but still felt strange since we ordered and paid at the counter. This charge applies to parties of two or more, which is pretty unusual for a casual dine-in setup. That said, the staff were friendly and accommodating throughout our visit.Despite those minor issues, I’ll definitely be coming back for the food. The flavors are that good, and the quality is always on point.
July 13 · Bong ArquizaWe stumbled upon this restaurant trying to escape the cold. The mantu was fantastic. The mix Afghan kabab was without a doubt one of the best things we could have ordered. Sami’s has some of the best kabab’s I’ve had in the US. The lamb was still juice and not at all dry, and the chicken was fantastic. The naan was warm and comforting. Definitely recommend.
April 12 · Emily SinghCame here a few times and have to say, if you’re craving a kebab, you have to come here. Food was delicious. It’s no frills and good food. My favorites are the koftas, but I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu.
