September 15 · Bethany CardonaMy go-to bakery in Chinatown. It never disappoints. The prices are super affordable.I've been to quite a few bakeries in the neighborhood but I know that I can always rely on Taipan being so so fresh and consistently good. I absolutely love the taro bun, which is well filled with a good taro flavor and oh my goodness when it's fresh out of the oven, and love the pork floss bun which is perfectly balanced in the amount of pork floss. The breads are soft and pillowy making it very easy to eat a few too many buns all at once. I've sent myself into belly aches from fullness multiple times after eating 3 or 4 buns at one time with the initial intention of only eating 1 bun. This is a solid spot for egg tarts. The egg tart is one of my favorite egg tarts in chinatown (there is only one other bakery that rivals it). They have both the classic and portuguese style. And a few different flavors as well.Every single time I'm in Chinatown, I always make a stop here whether I planned to or not, whether I'm hungry or not.
April 13 · Jessica YangTaipan Bakery/Assorted Vanilla Cake:The line was as long as the Yangtze River, but it moved quick! The cake was light and moist. It tasted just as good as it looked with a neat panda decor. My only critique is the cream was not layered in between the cake.
June 27 · Jeff T. CriticI spent $35 on pastries and buns excited to share with my family, and the staff carelessly tossed everything into 2 paper bags. By the time I got home from a short subway ride, the pastries were completely squished and ruined. On top of that, the staff were rude during checkout, which made the experience even worse. For the price I paid, I expected far better packaging and basic courtesy. This felt like a complete waste of money — I would not recommend coming here unless you plan to eat everything immediately in the store.
September 01 · Anna ChengHere’s a more polished and professional version of your review:---We ordered an orange roll along with a few other breads. Unfortunately, the next day, we discovered that the orange roll was already moldy. We didn’t inspect it at the time since it was stored behind the counter and packaged by the staff directly. I’m not sure if the roll molds super fast or it was already bad when it’s sold.
