★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The Mandarin is a cozy and small cafe outside of Chinatown serving up a variety of drinks such as matcha as well as pastries to eat.The staff are friendly and kind, and they make the drinks quite quickly and keep the place tidy. It is a bit confusing to get things such as napkins or utensils as they aren't readily available, but the staff help make sure its all given to you in a timely manner. We got a ham and gruyere croissant and a matcha with oat milk with honey as the sweetener. The Croissant was toasted well and the ham/gruyere went well with it, it was quite tasty. The matcha wasn't too strong, but overall was pretty solid.
August 25 · Nick SWorst coffee I’ve ever had. I ordered a “flash brew” which tasted like someone soaked coffee grounds in water for 10 seconds. Absolutely zero flavor, terrible. The ambiance was nice but clearly they don’t care about the coffee that they serve
September 15 · Brad ChinCame in while on the waitlist for a nearby diner... and was delighted :) A very cool aesthetic, friendly staff, classic cafe menu. I don't drink matcha, but i saw them making the matcha and they clearly take it very seriously - weighing out the matcha and using traditional tools. My drink was a flat white and I was very pleased with the flavor and consistency of the milk. They also had "no laptop" signs on the tables, which I really appreciated as I was able to get a seat even though the place was buzzing!
March 20 · Joseph HewesThe most beautifully designed and delicious coffee shop in NYC! There are so many thoughtful details, like the camouflaged trash can, earthen mugs, and fresh flowers. The staff is also nice, and they have great music taste. The coffee is flavorful and on the brighter side (a little bit fruity/citrusy like a mandarin - the name of the place!). I've been genuinely surprised by how nice the latte art was too, such as when I got a swan latte art. There is also a tasteful selection of magazines and newspapers that gets updated on a regular basis. Honestly such a great place to catch up with friends, read, or journal!
August 14 · Timothy LeeThe cutest cafe has popped up in the heart of Chinatown! With a modern, almost industrial like interior, the Mandarin is a welcomed new addition for those who need another place to get some work done. It has a good amount of seating, and is laptop friendly on weekdays. They also serve lattes and teas, along with some basic pastries. The cashier and workers are super nice, and serve you your order if you're dining in. I especially liked their matcha: it's rich, creamy, and not too sweet!Definitely come check out the place if you're in the area!
