The Ten Bells Introduce
In the vibrant and ever-evolving landscape of New York City's Lower East Side, finding a spot that combines a relaxed atmosphere with a sophisticated menu is a true delight. The Ten Bells, a celebrated wine bar and tapas restaurant, has been a neighborhood favorite since it opened in 2008. It's a place that strikes a perfect balance between a cozy, unpretentious vibe and an impressive selection of natural wines and delicious small plates. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just looking for a casual place to grab a drink and a bite, The Ten Bells offers a unique experience that's both approachable and memorable. It has a well-deserved reputation for being a "fantastic wine bar" that caters to a diverse crowd, from couples on a date night to friends looking for a lively place to gather.
The atmosphere at The Ten Bells is a key part of its charm. Described as both casual and cozy, the interior has a dimly lit, intimate feel with a few tables up front that give way to more seating and a large communal table in the back. This layout makes it suitable for a variety of occasions, whether you're dining solo, on a date, or with a larger group. The staff is known for being super friendly, professional, and attentive, ensuring that service is fast even when the place is buzzing. This commitment to great service, combined with the beautifully decorated interior, creates a welcoming environment that feels like a refreshing change from the more pretentious spots in the area. It's a place where you can truly relax and enjoy your evening.
One of the biggest draws to The Ten Bells is its famous happy hour, which runs daily until 7 PM. This deal, offering $1.50 oysters and $20 carafes of wine, is an incredible value that has made the place a go-to for many. While some might find the happy hour oysters on the smaller side, they are a great way to start the evening. The tapas menu is equally impressive, offering a wide array of small plates that are perfect for sharing. While some dishes may be exactly what you expect, others stand out, like the excellent Papas Bravas with their creamy sauce or the Mortadella and Chorizo Picante that are a consistent favorite. The menu also includes a diverse selection of meats and cheeses that are ideal for pairing with wine, such as the Wild Boar Cacciatorini or the Aged Comté.
The Ten Bells is conveniently located at 247 Broome St, New York, NY 10002, USA. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I discovered this happy hour spot on the LES that runs until 7 PM—$1.50 oysters and $20 carafes, which isn’t bad at all. The bar area up front is pretty small with just a few tables, but it opens up in the back with more seating and a large communal table.I ordered a dozen oysters from the HH menu. They were on the smaller side and honestly didn’t feel worth it. I also tried the chorizo empanadas, which were baked into little squares, not your traditional fried ones. They were just okay, and I didn’t get much chorizo. The papas bravas were excellent, I loved the creamy sauce it came with. The mortadella and chorizo picante definitely was my favorite bite of the night. The tapas overall weren’t too pricey, but portions were small. They have a decent wine list too. I’d come back to explore more of the tapas and try a different wine next time.
July 02 · Jamie LThis place is a fantastic wine bar! 🍷 The Ten Bells serves a large selection of wines and alcoholic drinks 🥃 alongside meat 🍖, cheese 🧀, and sweets! 🧁 Definitely get their Burrata with Honey 🍯 and Figs! They also have a daily happy hour until 7pm 🕖 with $1.5 oysters 🦪 and $20 carafe 🍶 of wine. The place is beautifully decorated 🛋️, has indoor seating and outdoor patio seating 🪑, staff 👨🍳 is super friendly and professional, and service is quick. ⏲️ I wish I came here more often!
May 11 · Alon GrinshpoonMy favorite bar ever. Had the besttttttt oysters I’ve ever had and such a variety of wines. The workers are such great people and so fun to talk to. 10/10 every time I visit !
September 13 · Gloriana AlfaroSuch a good time during happy hour. The oyster are now $1.50 (used to be $1) but damn they’re good. The white wine carafe is good too & cheap. Loved the tortilla and the mushroom croquettes. Loved the outdoor patio. Highly recommend!
August 12 · Gigi FIn the warm weather Ten Bells opens up it front windows to the street. It allows the street vibe in. The lighting is somewhat dark & the music seems well curated. They have a vast selection of small plates. They all sound somewhat ordinary but they are delivered to you with a twist. And that twist is full of flavour & intrigue. We settled into almonds, cheese, cremini mushrooms, shrimp nachos & tortilla. We enjoyed them all. They paced them out for us.Their wine selection has lots of intersting varietals. Service from behind the bar was efficient but not necessarily warm & fuzzy. They do serve a lot of people. We enjoyed our couple hours at Ten Bells. We came as walk-ins & departed as satisfied customers.
