★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1After a long-haul flight, I was starving and in need of a good meal near my hotel. I stumbled upon Three Hot Pot and BBQ on West 38th Street, offering a buffet hotpot lunch for $26.99. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try. The restaurant was impressively clean, which immediately set a positive tone.I opted for two soups for my hotpot: the tomato and chicken, and the abalone coconut soup. Both were flavorful and complemented the variety of ingredients available. The tomato soup is a MUST TRY! 🍅🍅🍅. I ordered, beef,, fish fillets, shrimps, chicken fillets, cabbage and the tofu which were delicious, and the mushrooms were a standout—great texture and taste. The setup allowed for a mix of grilling and hotpot, which was a nice touch. However, the beef was a slight disappointment—over 80% seemed to be fat. That said, it turned into a decent meal after grilling, which helped render some of the fat away. The sauces were also a highlight, adding excellent flavor to the meal.Overall, it was a very satisfying meal for the price and convenience, especially post-flight. I’d return for the ambiance, soup selection, and those tasty mushrooms!
July 14 · LLInteresting choice of space-themed design for a hotpot and kbbq restaurant. Maybe they’re trying to convey that their food is “out of this world”?For beverages, they offer a selection of canned sodas, and two choices of their in-house drinks: peach lemon tea and kumquat lemon tea. Highly recommend, they’re very good and refreshing! For the hotpot broth, they offer a good selection - a few of which I haven’t seen at other hotpot places. I got the pickled fish broth and pig bone base. Both were very flavorful and very good! We got medium spicy on the pickled fish broth but it wasn’t spicy at all.The vegetables and meat selection for the hotpot was very standard and very fresh. The kbbq meat selection was good and the marinated meats were very delicious. Now the complaints. Firstly, we asked for duck feet twice and never got them. No reasoning provided. Secondly, we sat there for a long time and had no access to napkins at the table, we had to get up and find some ourselves. Eventually our waiter caught on and brought us some additional napkins. Thirdly, our bowls were filling up with bones and discards, we had to ask our waiter for new bowls. Fourthly, the KBBQ oil will get very hot and randomly splash on you. So just be aware of that.
August 15 · Jia WangWe live nearby so we decided to check it out and were shocked at how good the quality and selection was for an AYCE spot at $43/person. I prefer the hot pot over the kbbq (grill space was kind of small). Shaved ice was also really good!
August 10 · Kaylee WonThis AYCE hotpot and BBQ spot in Midtown is a great casual spot for dinner with friends. For their dinner menu, you can do AYCE hotpot and bbq for ~$43pp, which also includes appetizers and some drinks. For alcoholic drinks, such as soju and beer, you can add ~$7pp for AYCD. The tables are spacious and the place is bright. We ordered a variety of meats and veggies for hotpot and bbq and it was alright. The hot pot is definitely better than the bbq as the meat quality was too fatty for bbq. Moreover, because they don't change the grills, the oils from the meat just pool onto the grill and the meats get really oily to eat after a while. We also got the fried chicken, spring rolls, and fried buns apps and I thought that the chicken and buns were good but the spring rolls were okay. The only thing I would have to say is that the service isn't the best. Although they are kind, half of the things we ordered never arrived or we had to constantly ask them to bring it out/check on our order.
August 26 · Mia HuynhThis hotpot restaurant has very clear pros and cons. The biggest advantage is the unique grill + hotpot combo setup, which allows everyone at the table, regardless of their seating position, to easily access both grilling and hotpot. There’s no need for people to take turns grilling or for all the grilled food to be handled by just one person. Additionally, the price for the all-you-can-eat hotpot and BBQ is fairly reasonable, especially for Manhattan. The menu selection and broth variety are also decent. However, the biggest flaw is also the grill-hotpot combo itself. The grill is placed uncomfortably close to the seating area, making it very easy for oil and juices from the meat to splash onto guests while grilling. On top of that, the grill and hotpot share the same heating system, meaning the grill is constantly on high heat. Whenever you take food out of the hotpot, any dripping broth immediately hits the scorching grill and splashes everywhere, making it very easy to burn your arms—a serious design issue.Another major downside is that the staff never replaced the grill plate throughout the entire meal. As a result, the leftover grease and meat bits kept burning, forming a thick layer of black charred residue, which gave off an unpleasant burnt smell. By the middle of the meal, I had completely lost interest in grilling anything else. The broth looked visually appealing but lacked depth in flavor, giving off the impression of a low-quality, pre-made base rather than something freshly prepared.Overall, THREE-HOT-POT & BBQ is a decent option if you live nearby or just happen to be passing through, but it’s definitely not worth traveling for. The concept is interesting, but the execution has too many flaws.
