Dim sum restaurant, Chinese restaurant ★4.0 (245)·$20–30

85 4th Ave, New York, NY 10003, USA

4.0
Overall: A huge disappointmentAmbience: outdated decor, but very good for solo lunch, quite a few tables are solo dinersService: not the waiter’s fault but the cheap plastic green chopsticks are a mode killer…Food:Huge disappointment: everything screamed previously frozen. The classic chicken feet is barely cooked (the traditional dim sum chicken feet should be so soft they melts in your mouth). The coffee and milk tea is very mediocre as well. The only redeeming dish is BBQ pork bun.Honestly don’t know how this shop can make it so far in the competitive food scene of New York City. Will never come back for sure. - EJ

Tim Ho Wan East Village Introduce

New York City's culinary landscape is a melting pot of global flavors, but few restaurants arrive with as much buzz as a world-famous, Michelin-starred eatery. Tim Ho Wan, often hailed as "the world's most inexpensive Michelin-starred restaurant," brought its renowned dim sum to the East Village, instantly becoming a destination for locals and tourists alike. This isn't your typical dim sum hall with whizzing carts; instead, it offers a more streamlined, focused menu of classic dishes made to order, ensuring every bite is as fresh as possible.

Tim Ho Wan's philosophy is simple: provide high-quality, authentic Cantonese dim sum at an accessible price point. Co-founded by Chef Mak Kwai Pui, a former chef at a Michelin three-star restaurant in Hong Kong, the brand has garnered global acclaim for its dedication to tradition and quality. In New York, the East Village location provides a cozy and casual atmosphere, drawing a diverse crowd from college students to seasoned dim sum enthusiasts. The menu may not be as extensive as those found in larger banquet halls, but each dish is a carefully crafted piece of art, from their signature baked BBQ pork buns to a variety of steamed, fried, and pan-fried delicacies. While some visitors might find the experience different from traditional dim sum, the promise of a delicious and authentic taste of Hong Kong remains the main attraction.
