The Ready Cantina Introduce
For New Yorkers and visitors looking to combine great Mexican food with an exceptional rooftop atmosphere, The Ready Cantina at the Moxy East Village is a must-visit destination. This isn't your average restaurant; it's a vibrant rooftop escape that blends the casual, lively vibe of a cantina with the chic, elevated setting of a high-end bar. The result is a unique and trendy spot that’s perfect for a variety of occasions, from an after-work happy hour to a memorable dinner with friends.
The first thing you'll notice upon arrival is the atmosphere. The Ready Cantina has been meticulously designed to feel like a "backyard garden" in the East Village, with eclectic decor that includes string lights, hand-painted murals, and even a bar made from stacked plastic milk crates. This playful yet sophisticated aesthetic creates a laid-back feel that is perfect for a social outing. What truly sets this place apart, however, is the retractable glass roof. This feature transforms the space into a year-round destination, allowing you to enjoy the stunning views of the East Village and lower Manhattan skyline, whether it’s a sunny summer day or a chilly evening.
The menu at The Ready Cantina focuses on Mexican-inspired bites that are designed to complement the bar's extensive drink offerings. While some might find the portion sizes small, the flavors are consistently praised. The Tacos Azotea are a highlight, made fresh to order on white corn tortillas and served "Tijuana style" with salsa verde, salsa roja, crema, and cotija cheese. Options like the Chicken Tinga, Beef Brisket Barbacoa, and Crispy Pork Carnitas are flavorful and well-executed. For a savory starter, the Hot Cheese Nachos and Pomegranate Guacamole with Chips are popular choices. And for dessert, the Wild Coconut Tres Leches is a rich and surprising treat that has earned rave reviews.
But while the food is a key part of the experience, the cocktails are what truly define The Ready Cantina. The bar offers a wide selection of drinks, including classic and frozen margaritas, as well as a variety of other spirits, beer, and wine. The cocktails are often described as high-quality and delicious, though it's noted that they can be pricey outside of happy hour. This makes their happy hour specials an incredible deal that’s well worth seeking out. With a great playlist setting the mood, the drinks, food, and views come together to create the perfect backdrop for a good time. The lively and sometimes loud environment is part of its charm, and it's a great place for groups to gather and celebrate. The restaurant also prides itself on being an LGBTQ+ friendly space, welcoming a diverse crowd that includes tourists and locals alike.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Overall we enjoyed our time. Few things to note..Very loud! We don't mind but if you do, I can't recommend. I highlyyyy recommend going for happy hour and if you don't go for happy hour, make sure you're just going for a short time. The drinks are very overpriced. They're good.. but $20 for a single marg obviously doesn't make sense. The tacos also, good but overpriced. I enjoyed the Carne asada tacos, but they were teeny tiny bite-sized. So depending on your willingness to spend and how hungry you are..The vibes and views/photo ops are what you come for!
July 07 · kelA chic rooftop escape in the East Village with elevated cantina vibes. The tacos were flavorful, the nachos and guacamole fresh, and the cocktails felt made for golden hour. They even had a tres leches flan that totally surprised me, it was so rich and delicious. A perfect spot to sip and snack as the sun goes down.
July 11 · Ken FrancisWe had an excellent experience at the Ready. Fantastic food, drinks and service. If you’re lucky you’ll get Darius serving you. He’s polite, efficient and a hustler. The tacos were delicious and the margaritas were even better. Go spicy if you dare!4-6pm is happy hour. Get there for that if you can! Beautiful views, greenery everywhere and a great vibe!
July 15 · Andrew CainI’ve never in my life felt so blatantly racially profiled at a restaurant. From the second me and my partner walked in, it was clear we weren’t welcome.• The security guard set the tone immediately. Instead of showing basic hospitality, he acted like we were a burden, even radioing upstairs as if our presence was a problem.• It took over 30 minutes before a server even came to our table. When he finally did, the first thing out of his mouth wasn’t a greeting, it was a demand for my card — as if I was about to dine and dash.• Only after I opened my wallet and he saw how much cash I had did he backtrack, mutter “never mind, you’re fine,” and stormed off. The passive-aggressiveness was loud and clear. Later on he gave up our table as if we were, once again, a burden• To make matters worse, when it came time to pay, their system crashed and I was forced to sit another 30 minutes waiting. No accommodation, no discount, nothing but a hollow apology that didn’t feel genuine at all. Here’s the kicker: the food and atmosphere were actually great. But none of that matters when the staff makes it painfully obvious that if you’re not white, or don’t “dress white,” you’re treated as less than.If you care about being respected as a paying customer, I can’t recommend this place. Good food isn’t worth enduring open disrespect and profiling.
September 04 · PoshThe rooftop itself is nice, but I think the establishment is poorly run. I went after work with my colleagues and we were told we had 30 minutes left to make space for another reservation, which we were fine with, except our waiter never came to hand us the bill. The hostess ended up getting upset at us and saying that she had already asked us to leave, when the problem was that her staff did not communicate well and was inattentive. We would have gladly left had our bill been brought. The food is also subpar. If you are Latino the tacos will likely be a disappointment.
