Choosing Abe's Pitaria is choosing an establishment rooted in serving classic Greek and Mediterranean fast-casual food on Long Island. It is worth considering for the sheer variety of pita fillings and platter combinations, particularly if you are in the mood for a satisfying gyro or falafel sandwich that's packed with ingredients. The availability of diverse choices—from the rich **Gyro** to the vegetarian-friendly **Baba Ganoush Pita**—makes it a versatile option for lunch or dinner.
However, potential customers in the New York area should be aware of recent customer feedback that suggests a significant decline in operational standards, including concerns about service quality, perceived cleanliness, and unexpected changes in pricing and billing practices, possibly stemming from a change in ownership. While some recent reviews still praise the core quality of the food (like a well-stuffed gyro), these positive mentions are often overshadowed by complaints about rudeness and other issues.
If you are seeking a no-frills, quick, and potentially delicious traditional gyro or pita, and are prepared for a strictly casual and possibly inconsistent service experience, Abe's Pitaria may still satisfy that specific craving on Merrick Road. Given the mixed and sometimes negative recent customer reports, we recommend ordering takeout or delivery for convenience and checking online reviews before committing to a dine-in visit.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Used to be good. Prices went from $6.95 to $8.25 to $15 for a Gyro or falafel. Absolutely insane. And it would be nice if the cook wore gloves, considering he’s also handling money from customers. I don’t expect to see this place open in six months.
March 02 · ScottPlace has surely gone to hell in recent years, I used to be a regular but I won’t even order in there. They don’t have most of the stuff on the menu, the guy behind the counter is nasty and rude. It’s a shame to see a place that was once one of my favorites seem so run down and is certainly not respected by the employees. Save yourself the time and aggravation and go elsewhere seems everyone else is also. Last straw was when I went in during lunch and it was dead, and the man behind the counter was just a nasty intolerable person. I walked out. Sad to say I will never come back.
July 24 · PETER WAGNERFound a piece of plastic in my falafel. Ate my pita first and then discovered the plastic. Gross.Service was also terrible. Will never go back.
April 13 · MWent in. Waited a few minutes without being acknowledged, no big deal it’s a one man show. When it was my turn I asked for a few recommendations for three people as my mom and dad come to eat there before and pick up dinner. Totally got shooed away, no desire to give me any recommendation or any help ordering off their menu, just a complete 0 in any type of service. Buddy, you’re not doing me a favor cooking my food. I’m doing you a favor spending money there and keeping the place afloat. Your customers are number one, you sir treated me like a zero. Never walking back in again and neither are my parents.
