African Home Restaurant offers a menu rich with classic West African staples, making it a perfect spot for both those familiar with the cuisine and New Yorkers looking to explore new flavors. The worthiest choices on the menu are those that represent the heart and soul of the region's cooking.
A mandatory starting point for any visit is the iconic **Jollof Rice ($14.00)**. This vibrant, savory rice dish, cooked in a rich tomato and pepper base, is a foundational West African meal and a globally celebrated dish. Equally essential is the **Waakye ($14.00)**, a delicious combination of rice and beans, typically served with a spicy sauce and accompaniments. For those who can't decide, the **Waakye & Jollof Rice ($15.00)** combination offers the best of both worlds, providing a delightful contrast of flavors and textures.
For an authentic, hands-on West African experience, New Yorkers should absolutely choose one of the main dishes paired with a traditional swallow. The **Fufu & Soup ($14.00)** is a classic, combining the soft, dough-like starch with a savory soup (often containing meat or fish). Other recommended swallows include **Tuo Zaafi & Soup ($14.00)**, **Rice Ball & Soup ($14.00)**, **Banku & Soup ($14.00)**, and **Kenkey & Soup ($14.00)**. These dishes showcase the complexity and heartiness of the cuisine and are integral to a full West African dining experience.
The selection of side dishes and complementary items also deserves attention. The **Beans & Plantain ($10.00)** is a satisfying and flavorful combination. Additionally, the **Spinach ($12.00)** option provides a rich, nutrient-dense vegetable accompaniment, often simmered with traditional spices. Since the restaurant is known for its West African authenticity, customers should make sure to inquire about the different types of soup available on the day they visit, as these are often the highlight of the meal and vary based on traditional regional recipes.
Finally, given the establishment's focus on **comfort food** and **Halal food**, diners can be assured of the quality and traditional preparation of any meat or fish served alongside their chosen rice or swallow.

August 22 · Intisar NurudeenOk why do u open a business when there is a lack of customer service, comunication and poor service toward people that makes your business. Stop disrespecting customers that pays the money that make your salary. The service people have the worse attitude. Twice our order got canceled last minute , once i got here asking for my food to learn that it wasnt ready at the said time. A lady was over the phone and gave me attitude while i was just asking if my food was ready. I take my money to other business. Save yourself from disrespect when they are plenty restaurant out there that treats customers with respect
May 02 · kambire catherineIf you want to enjoy the worth of your money in this place, go there physically. Do not order online .... they have the best (wanke/rice and beans) and the price is very reasonable and the people working there are nice for the most part depending on the energy you "bring to the table" your attitude is the reflection of you . Be nice and positive as spend your money for service and be respectful of the people giving you the service . Cheers!.
September 15 · Abdul RamanThis excellent restaurant remains undiscovered by many. African Home Restaurant delivered moments of pure gastronomic wonder! African Home Restaurant excels in all aspects. Their workers showed a welcoming attitude. You'll pay extra, but the quality makes sense.
August 19 · Dianne SimmonsAfrican home has only gotten bigger and better. Stole some jollof rice from my brother and I got to say, the jollof did not fall-of this time; it gotten more delicious.By the way, the trick to getting more meat on that big platter of rice they give you is to go in person, because the servers know you are watching them make your plate. Everyone who orders online knows how cheap they go on the meat, like ice cube said “y’all giving rations out here?”Overall good food
