Brass Monkey Introduce
In a city where nightlife can be as overwhelming as it is exciting, Brass Monkey offers a refreshingly casual and cozy retreat. Located in the fashionable Meatpacking District, this bar has become a well-loved spot for those seeking a laid-back yet trendy atmosphere without the pretense often found in the neighborhood. While its dark facade from the outside might be deceiving, stepping inside reveals a vibrant, multi-level space with a welcoming energy. Brass Monkey is a women-owned business, adding a unique and supportive dimension to its identity in New York's competitive bar scene. It’s a versatile venue that caters to a diverse crowd, from groups of friends celebrating a night out to tourists exploring the city's nightlife, and it proudly identifies as LGBTQ+ friendly. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick drink, a bite to eat, or a full evening of socializing, Brass Monkey provides a comfortable and lively setting that feels both authentically New York and delightfully unpretentious. The bar’s reputation is built on its friendly vibe, extensive drink options, and a classic menu of pub fare that is perfect for sharing.
Brass Monkey's appeal lies in its ability to offer a variety of experiences under one roof. The main floor is a classic bar with a lively, bustling energy, while the multiple levels, including a famous rooftop, provide different environments to suit any mood. The music is often a highlight, with a DJ playing popular "banger after banger," creating a fun and energetic backdrop without necessarily being a full-on dance club. The bar is also a great spot for sports fans, with a setup of projectors and multiple TVs that make it a perfect place to catch the big game. While some customers have noted that the crowd can be a bit older on certain nights, the general consensus is that the atmosphere is fun and welcoming to all. The menu of classic pub food, from hand-cut fries to cheeseburger sliders and wings, is perfect for sharing and complements the drink selection. The portions are generous, and the food is a definite highlight for many patrons. Despite a few mixed reviews on drink strength and service, the overall experience is consistently described as a good value, with reasonable prices for a Manhattan bar. This balance of a fun atmosphere, good food, and great drinks is what makes Brass Monkey a solid choice for a night out in the city.
One of the most notable features of Brass Monkey is its multiple levels, each with its own character. The rooftop space, in particular, is a major draw, offering a unique outdoor experience in the heart of the Meatpacking District. While it may not have the towering views of some of the city's more luxurious rooftop bars, it provides a lush, comfortable space with a peek-a-boo view of the Hudson River and the New Jersey skyline. The wooden furniture and English pub style give it a relaxed vibe that is a welcome escape from the urban rush. This rooftop area is a fantastic spot to enjoy a drink and some food on a pleasant evening. Downstairs, the space is just as inviting, with exposed beams, brass fixtures, and brick walls creating an old-school, cozy feel. The bar is well-staffed and often praised for its fast service, even on crowded nights, ensuring you won't have to wait long for a beer or cocktail. The combination of a lively main bar and a more relaxed rooftop makes Brass Monkey a great place for an entire evening, whether you’re looking to chat with friends, meet new people, or simply enjoy the trendy ambiance.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Stella for the Bella!Great little spot we found by the high line. Looks dark from the outside, but they’ve got a great rooftop space.Service here was great too. The bartender recommended the lovely Dogfish IPA to my friend and I had a few of the Coney Island Pilsners.Played banger after banger as well.
May 12 · Rebecca DrumThe bartender was off-putting and unfriendly and it felt like she was intentionally watering down our drinks (I saw her pour other drinks quite heavy handed, and we were only one drink in so it was unrelated to excessive inebriation). Prices are okay but you’re paying for half a shot and a cup of ice and club soda for most of the mixed drinks. Crowd wasn’t too diverse but the DJ was fun. Not a dancing place necessarily and the crowd was a bit older (Thursday night). If the drinks were stronger and matched what you pay, and had more enthusiastic service, this place would be a hit! It has a good set up and lighting.
September 05 · Tzipporah GoinsWent to the rooftop on Monday night and was treated disrespectfully by one of the lady waitresses. I started asking her questions about the menu but she clearly did not care and would not even look at me. Her colleague did not bring us the beer we ordered from him and we had to go get it ourselves.I literally tipped way too much (18%). I have had much better experiences in NYC where I tipped nothing or less, so I regret it even more that I tipped without receiving any service at all. For anyone coming here, tip after you have received your service, otherwise you might end up being treated in a way you do not appreciate. However, the staff downstairs was really nice, including the bouncer.Food is obviously overpriced for what you get, but considering the area where the bar is located, this is probably the norm.
August 14 · NadoThis is easily one of my favorite pubs in NYC in all respects — location, staff, interior, food…in no particular order. Whenever I’m in the meat-packing district, I head over for a beer and a quick bite. On my last visit I had a fish taco…one word: delectable!
August 25 · Kanad BanerjeeNice spot to stop by for a quick drink and a snack.Ordered two drinks and the Guinness beer cheese with potato wedges. The beer was a nice pour; the staff was very friendly. The potato wedges were cooked to perfection, and the cheese sauce was very tasty.
