Food was amazing! We definitely picked the more indulgent foods and honestly they did not disappointed. So so so amazing. The sushi roll was one of the best I’ve had, they packed it up with tuna and it was so fresh and tasty! I also really enjoyed the fried soft shell crab. Really good and the atmosphere was great. - asmaa odeh

Cho Dang Gol Introduce

In the vibrant and bustling neighborhood of Koreatown in New York City, Cho Dang Gol stands out as a true culinary institution. While the area is famous for its sizzling Korean barbecue joints, Cho Dang Gol has carved a unique and revered niche for itself by specializing in an ancient and comforting staple: tofu. This isn't just any tofu, however; the restaurant is known for its silky, flavorful, and incredibly fresh homemade tofu, crafted daily on-site. This dedication to tradition and quality has earned the restaurant a loyal following and, notably, a Michelin Bib Gourmand designation, an honor that recognizes exceptional quality at a great value. It's the kind of place that feels like a warm embrace, offering a taste of authentic Korean home cooking right in the heart of Manhattan.

The atmosphere at Cho Dang Gol is casual and cozy, a stark contrast to the high energy of some of its neighboring establishments. The interior is decorated with rustic, close-knit wooden tables, creating an intimate and comfortable setting. This simple, homey appeal puts the focus squarely on the food, allowing the rich flavors of each dish to take center stage. The restaurant is popular among a diverse crowd, from college students and family groups to tourists and solo diners. It is a place that feels both authentic and welcoming, appealing to both Korean food aficionados and newcomers eager to explore the cuisine beyond barbecue.

As a popular spot, Cho Dang Gol often has a wait, especially during peak lunch and dinner times. This is a testament to its reputation and the quality of the food. The service, however, is attentive and friendly, and the staff works efficiently to manage the bustling crowd. This sense of a lively, sought-after spot only adds to the experience, promising that the meal at the end of the wait is well worth it. From the moment you are seated and presented with a complimentary tofu starter and a variety of flavorful banchan (side dishes), you know you are in for a special and authentic meal.
