El Pulgarcito de America Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For New Yorkers craving a taste of authentic Central American comfort food, El Pulgarcito de America stands out as a genuine culinary gem in the heart of Brooklyn. Located in the East New York neighborhood, this Salvadoran restaurant has become a go-to spot for locals seeking traditional, hearty dishes. The name "El Pulgarcito de America," which translates to "The Little Thumb of America," is a charming nickname for El Salvador, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to bringing the genuine flavors of the country right to your table.
Specializing in classic Salvadoran cuisine, El Pulgarcito de America is most famous for its incredible Pupusas—thick, handmade corn tortillas stuffed with savory fillings like pork cracklings (chicharrón), cheese, or a mix of both (revueltas). Beyond this beloved local specialty, the menu is an expansive showcase of Latin American culinary traditions, offering everything from comforting soups to grilled meats and Mexican favorites. This is more than just a place to grab a quick meal; it's a dedicated, women-owned and Latino-owned business that has created a cozy and welcoming atmosphere for all of Brooklyn's diverse community.
Whether you’re in the mood for a satisfying sit-down dinner, a quick bite on the go, or the convenience of meal delivery right to your apartment, El Pulgarcito de America is equipped to serve. The restaurant is popular for all main meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—making it a reliable choice throughout the day. Customers consistently praise the authenticity of the food, noting that it truly delivers the flavor of the "motherland." While the popularity means wait times, particularly during busy dinner hours, may be longer for orders like a dozen pupusas and yuca con chicharrón, the consensus is that the delicious, freshly-made food is well worth the wait. It is a true neighborhood staple, offering quality, authentic food that resonates with both long-time residents and new visitors to the area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My older cousins told me I needed to try this spot out and Im so happy they did. I was craving food from the motherland so I called in a pick up order. I called at around 4 pm, they sounded very busy. I ordered 6 pupusas, yuca con chicharon, and two tamales de elote! Thats my go to at every Salvi spot. And it did not disappoint! The only thing I will say is that it did take a long time ( an hour plus) to get the food at around dinner time. Call in advance and pick up, and its Cash Only!
July 29 · Will CastroOrdered pupusas de revueltas. Tasted good the only complaint is it's very oily. The waiter attended us 30 minutes before they were suppose to close and she was phenomenal. This woman was handling everything by herself and the place was almost pack when we arrived. Food didn't take long to arrive.
June 17 · Vanessa GuevaraEveryone is always looking out for the 1 waitress to come by and take the order and if you happen to have a little attitude for waiting the whole time , now you have to wait till your food comes after everyone else’s to get your drink cause they don’t hire help to help the one lady doing the most. I’m lying , there’s 2 other lady’s , one that collects the plates and another one that brings out some stuff but mainly work the register
August 06 · America FloresHands down one of Brooklyn hidden gems. When it comes to Salvadorian dishes it could be a challenge finding great spot in New York and many people haven’t been expose to it .When you walk in nothing fancy , many locals, almost feels stuck in the 80s but we here for the food .The service is okay pretty fast no much explanation just menu , the servers also taking phone order and counter order’s packing and charging, so can’t blame them. But the food was awesome many popusa option and rice popusa which I never seen before. Tamal de elote my favorite and mix popusa is my favorite.I needed to come back, so I invited some friends from Salvador and they also expressed “ they just like home “.I was still not convince and invited more friends from Salvador they also confirm best popusa in town the closet popusa are located in Long Island. Very satisfied with meals. The last time I visited I happen to run into the originals friends from Salvador at this location they travel from queens to eat so great popusa !Hope you get to enjoy
July 19 · NVThe food is meh. Ordered the fish in garlic sauce, worse decision ever. The fish was tough and rubbery... RUBBERY!!!!! Fried Yucca would've been delicious and crispy, but it taste like it was fried in recycled oil. Not fresh , the shrimp was frozen cocktail shrimp with added sauce. ~ I do have to say, I don't know what they add to the white rice, it is DELICIOUS!!!
