Eli's Essentials And Wine Bar Introduce
In the heart of the Upper East Side, Eli's Essentials And Wine Bar offers a unique and dual-concept experience that is perfectly suited for the New York City lifestyle. This establishment seamlessly blends the convenience of a high-end grocery store with the relaxed elegance of a wine bar. It’s a place where you can pop in to pick up a freshly baked challah bread and, at the same time, decide to sit down for a glass of wine and a delicious meal. The atmosphere is designed to be both functional and inviting, described as casual, cozy, and trendy, making it an ideal spot for a quick stop or a leisurely evening with friends. This combination of a gourmet market and a dining destination is a smart solution for New Yorkers who value both quality and convenience.
The wine bar aspect of Eli's is a key highlight, known for its "Great wine list." This curated selection of wines provides a perfect backdrop for a relaxing evening. Whether you're a connoisseur or just looking for a nice glass to unwind with, the options are plentiful and complement the food menu wonderfully. The availability of "Happy hour drinks" and "Happy hour food" also makes it an attractive destination for a post-work gathering or a pre-dinner stop. The food menu for the wine bar seems to feature a mix of comfort food classics and fresh, well-prepared dishes, perfect for pairing with a variety of wines. This focus on both great wine and good food ensures that Eli's is a complete dining experience, not just a place for a drink.
Beyond the wine, the "Essentials" part of the name speaks to the grocery store aspect. Customers note that the store is "nice, clean, and organized," with a wide variety of items. They have "all sorts of pastries, breads, and cookies," along with "soup and cold cuts" and a "small salad bar." This fresh and ready-to-eat selection is a huge draw for locals who want to grab a quick and delicious meal or pick up high-quality ingredients for home. The to-go menu includes classics like Challah French Toast and Avocado Toast, as well as hearty options like the E.a.t. Turkey Club sandwich. The focus on fresh, baked goods and prepared foods is a major asset, providing convenience without compromising on quality. The scents of fresh bread and pastries also add to the inviting atmosphere of the store.
However, it's important to address the mixed customer feedback regarding pricing and staff attitude. One review expresses strong opinions about the high prices, feeling they are "taking advantage" and charging "Restaurant served" prices for grocery items. This perception of high cost, especially for items like cooked rice, cookies, and soup, is a valid point of concern for some customers. Another review mentions a "grocery store type staff with no customer service skills and no smile," which suggests potential inconsistencies in the service experience. While some customers may accept these prices as a trade-off for the convenient location on Madison Avenue, others may find it a "gross disrespect." This feedback is valuable for potential customers to consider when deciding whether to visit, especially if they are price-conscious or prioritize friendly, smiling service.
Despite the mixed reviews on price and service, Eli's offers several features that make it a compelling choice. It's a great spot for "solo dining," offering a comfortable and casual environment for individuals to enjoy a meal or a drink. It's also suitable for "groups" and "tourists," with a versatile space that can accommodate different needs. The availability of outdoor seating is a significant plus, offering a pleasant option for enjoying the Madison Avenue streetscape. The store also accepts reservations, which is a great planning tool for those who want to ensure they get a table for a larger group or during a busy time. The acceptance of various payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, adds to the convenience. These amenities, along with the dual concept, make Eli's a unique and functional part of the neighborhood.
The "cozy" and "trendy" atmosphere contributes to a pleasant dining or shopping experience. Even when you're just stopping in for a quick item, the environment makes it feel like more than just a regular trip to the store. The availability of "food at bar" and "table service" means you can choose the experience that best suits your needs, whether it’s a quick drink at the bar or a sit-down meal. The combination of a comfortable setting with a wide range of offerings—from breakfast to a full meal with wine—makes Eli's a versatile destination. It’s a place that can adapt to different times of day and different needs, which is a major asset in a city like New York where people's schedules are constantly changing. It’s a place that understands the needs of a modern, urban clientele.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It’s a nice, clean, and organized bakery/deli/restaurant. I have been shopping at Eli’s for years, but for some reasons, I haven’t had chance to visit the store that’s the closest to me.The foods looked fresh, and smells nice. I looked around even though a challah was the only thing I needed today. They have all sorts of pastries, breads, and cookies. Some soup and cold cuts. They also have freshly made food and a small salad bar.I’ll come back and try their other items. I believe they also offer dine in options.
August 26 · Bradley CHERE WAS MY EXPERIENCE SEVERAL TIMESStaff:Seemingly “grocery store” type staff with no customer service skills and no smile.Food items:Cooked rice $23.90 a pound? LOL,$5.50 for a cookie, $5.00 a donut,$15 dollars for a small soup, $7.00 small jello, My goodness! Lol. Holy Cannoli Batman!!Ok yes, this is on Madison Avenue, and I’m sure they need to charge more their to suit the rent and overhead, but in my view it is a gross disrespect to everyone because it is taking advantage by charging“Restaurant served” prices for grocery items.I do indulge from time to time and I do not skimp on gourmet items, but I would never recommend this place, as it does feel to me like a deliberate rip-off.
September 06 · B. SaszareWe walked in late night after last call. However, the staff let us in. The kitchen staff apologized and managed to provide us some dishes, french fries and tarte withice-cream and so on. The staff took care of us very much. Thanks to staff, I could spend good cozy time that I wanted be a repeater. 🥂Kind of apple cider was tasty.I would like to see friendly staff and have dinner next time.
March 17 · MasaI would have given this place 5 stars because they let people use their bathroom. In NYC, that's worth 5 stars. We decided to eat there after the museum. It was a chilly day and we asked them to close the front door. Unfortunately, the staff told us that the owner requires them to leave it open!!!We left.To me that seemed cruel to employees who are forced to work their many hours in all kinds of weather, and a not nice to customers. For those who choose to stay, I wonder how comfortable they are in the cold.
June 16 · Tax ProfessionalThis place has all the makings of a great little Cafe style restaurant but it was definitely a miss for me. The deli side is cute and a lot to choose from but the restaurant side is lacking and not necessarily the food. It could have been an off day but what made this experience awful was the fact that they were having work done, inside, 5 feet from our table. Not small unobtrusive work. They had a grinder saw with sparks flying and then continious hammering on metal. The noise was deafening. It wasn't apparent upon our seating that this would continue throughout the meal. At any time the hostess or our sever could have said that it might have been better outside, which we didn't realize they had, or even upstairs. The salt in the salt shaker was clumped together in such a way that when opened, the salt just spilled out. It was really more of the ambiance than the food but really...have work done before you open or after hours. Very disappointing experience.
