I am Kimchi Introduce
## Introduction / Overview
Tucked away in a vibrant section of Flushing, Queens, I am Kimchi is a beloved neighborhood destination for those seeking authentic, homestyle Korean cooking. This restaurant prides itself on delivering hearty, generously portioned meals that truly taste homemade, a quality highly prized by local New Yorkers familiar with genuine Korean cuisine. Far from the typical large-scale, trendy spot, I am Kimchi is best described as a homey place that locals frequent, creating an atmosphere where the focus remains squarely on satisfying, traditional flavors.
The menu is designed to cater to the core of Korean comfort food. From bubbling stews perfect for sharing, such as GamJa Tang (Pork Bone Soup) and Bulgogi Pot, to classic individual meals like Kimchi Stew and the popular Don Katsu, I am Kimchi provides satisfying choices for both Lunch and Dinner. An unusual but convenient feature is their "PRE MADE" section, offering traditional Korean side dishes and meats to take home, like different varieties of kimchi and pre-seasoned Bulgogi and Spicy Pork (제육), making it a great resource for New Yorkers who want authentic flavors for their own home cooking.
The overall experience emphasizes value; customers consistently note that the portions were quite big and the Price is more than fair for what you get. While service style is reported to be direct and casual, the quality of the food and the size of the portions—often requiring a to-go box—make I am Kimchi a highly recommended spot for those in the Flushing area looking for a deeply authentic Korean meal.

## What is Worth Choosing
To experience the best of I am Kimchi, New Yorkers should focus on the dishes that highlight the restaurant’s home-style excellence and generous portions.
1. The Ultimate Comfort Stew: For two or more people, ordering the GamJa Tang (Pork Bone Soup) or the Bulgogi Pot is highly recommended. These communal stews are the epitome of Korean comfort food and allow groups to share a flavorful, satisfying meal. For an individual portion, the Bulgogi Pot is a fantastic choice, lauded by a customer as "fantastic."
2. Individual Classics with Value: The Kimchi Stew is a staple and highly recommended for its significant amount of meat (large, well-portioned chunks). While some may find the seasoning unusually sour (indicating a preference for deeply fermented kimchi, a matter of personal taste), the value for money is undisputed. For those craving non-stew comfort food, the Don Katsu is a must-try.
3. The Take-Home Experience: The PRE MADE section is an invaluable resource for locals. Grabbing some fresh Kimchi or pre-seasoned Bulgogi to cook at home allows you to extend the restaurant’s authentic taste far beyond your dine-in experience, making this place a crucial part of a local's Korean food repertoire.
Despite some reports of a quiet or reserved service style, the core appeal of I am Kimchi—its gigantic portions, home-made taste, and exceptional price-to-quantity ratio—solidifies its reputation as a must-visit spot for authentic Korean comfort food in Flushing.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Great homey place that locals frequent. The bulgogi stew was fantastic and so was the beef rib soup. Both came with rice and side dishes. They portions were quite big and it tasted very home made. Highly recommend this spot!
September 27 · Basia PankoCame here for lunch based on reviews and ordered kimchi stew. It was unusually sour. It wasn't spicy at all, maybe it's catered more for Americans? Not sure. (I can't eat spicy foods but I do prefer a kick, 얼큰한거 you know? Flavorful with spice in the stew). They gave 3 side dishes, one being radish kimchi which was also sour. Probably got too fermented because that's what happens when it's sitting for long.Pros - they give you decent amount of meat in the stew bc idk what other restaurants gives you as much as they do. They were big chunks too. Price is more than fair for what you get. Had to take the rest to go.Cons - idk what it was but the vibes I got from both waiters was odd. There's no greeting when you walk in. When I asked for to go bag, the lady tells another lady that I need a to go bag but she seemed busy with the delivery and talking to vendors. She just stood there and did nothing lmao. Only for her to eventually bring it to me herself. Also, she wasn't being rude when I realized they dont take card for $20 and under. So when I told her I didnt know and didnt have cash, I was going to mention sending via zelle as some business does this. But she just took my card and charged. But again, there's no reassurance of telling customers, "it's ok", "no problem". The silence this entire time just made things awkward and almost got me thinking if I did something wrong lol. It's all very strange lol I'm sure other foods are great and maybe they're not like this everyday. I would go back and try donkatsu but not sure if i want to dine in lmaooo
July 15 · Hanna KMixed stew and shrimp creamy pasta were both really yummy!!! Our server and the middle-age lady (the owner/manager?) were super friendly and helpful. The restaurant is not big but the atmosphere is very calm and clean.
July 12 · Amber TseungThis restaurant went viral and got really popular, expect to wait to get seats or not wait if you are lucky. The atmosphere is very down to earth and simple. You are there for the food. For the price, you will get a lot of good home style Korean food. The staff are very friendly.
January 14 · JAW 314I found this place over a year ago and so happy I did! I go here every few months whenever I crave home-cooked Korean meals that my mom used to make. The atmosphere is cozy and the owner is the nicest friendliest woman ever. She’s very attentive to what we need and answer everything with a smile. The service is quick too and you leave feeling very satisfied. My favorite food is the army stew and the spicy pork. Their pasta is great too! Better than an Italian restaurant!
