Julia Jean's Introduce
For a taste of old-school charm and a scoop of pure happiness, New Yorkers in the know head to Julia Jean's. Tucked away in the vibrant Lower East Side (LES), this ice cream shop is more than just a place to satisfy your sweet tooth; it’s a destination that evokes a sense of nostalgia with every spoonful. This is not your typical high-volume dessert chain. Julia Jean's prides itself on making small-batch, handmade ice cream with milk and cream sourced from Upstate New York. The result is a truly elevated, creamy, and flavorful experience that feels both unique and comfortingly familiar.
The business is a testament to passion and a commitment to quality. As a Black-owned and women-owned small business, Julia Jean's contributes to the rich diversity of the city's entrepreneurial landscape. The owner, Ayanna Quint, named the shop after her mother, whose favorite treat was a banana split, a classic that holds a special place on the menu. This personal touch is woven into the very fabric of the establishment, creating an atmosphere that is genuinely warm and welcoming. Every flavor and creation is crafted with care, often drawing inspiration from cherished memories and classic favorites. From the first scoop to the last, you can feel the love and dedication poured into each batch.
The shop's approach is refreshingly simple yet deeply satisfying. While many places focus on wild, trendy flavors, Julia Jean's excels at perfecting the classics. Flavors like Butter Pecan, Cherry Vanilla, and Rocky Road are made with an expert touch, ensuring they are rich, balanced, and incredibly delicious. They even have unique takes on classics, such as their "showers," which are like stracciatella with chocolate flakes instead of chips, a delightful nod to a beloved childhood ice cream parlor. The generous "baseball-sized" scoops and the friendly owner who delights in sharing samples and conversation make every visit a memorable experience. It’s a perfect spot for locals looking for a reliable, high-quality treat and for visitors wanting to experience an authentic slice of New York's food scene.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The perfect ice cream experience and exactly what the neighborhood needed! Medium scoops are described as “baseball sized” and do not disappoint. Plan to stay a few extra minutes as the owners seem to genuinely delight in sharing samples and scooping their DELICIOUS small-batch, hand-made flavors.
June 01 · Elizabeth PetteySuch delicious and classic ice cream! The owner is really friendly and the serving size is a great value. Will definitely be back!!!
August 09 · Celine LombardiDelicious! My pup and I throughly enjoyed our scoops. He had some of the vanilla. I had the rest and a scoop of coffee. Smooth and creamy. The coffee had the right amount of coffee to cream and sweetness. I can’t believe they make all their ice creams and most of their toppings in-house. So many flavors! I can’t wait to try them all.
May 29 · Cindy Chang (CINART)Easily the best coffee ice cream I've ever had. Everything I tried was amazing honestly. The shop is adorable and the owner is so nice! 100% a must-stop if you're in lower Manhattan.
May 29 · S. OrlichThis is a welcome and joyful addition to the neighborhood. Vanilla with speculoo and strawberry: heaven. Epic ice cream sandwiches: yes. Chocolate shower mint shower: believe it!
