Leon's Bagels Introduce
In New York City, the bagel is more than just a breakfast food; it's an institution, a culinary icon, and a deeply personal choice. While countless shops claim to have the best bagels, a new player has quickly earned a place among the city's favorites: Leon's Bagels. Tucked away on Thompson Street in Greenwich Village, Leon's has become a must-visit for anyone seeking a truly authentic and delicious bagel experience. It’s a place that, despite its relatively recent arrival, has captured the hearts of both locals and tourists with its simple, high-quality approach to a New York classic.
What sets Leon's Bagels apart is its unwavering commitment to quality and tradition. The shop is a testament to the belief that the best things in life are often "nothing fancy"—a motto that reflects the straightforward yet exceptional nature of its offerings. The bagels are hand-rolled and kettle-boiled, resulting in that perfect New York texture: crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. This meticulous process ensures that every bagel, from a classic plain to a flavor-packed everything, is an absolute delight.
Beyond the bagels themselves, Leon's offers a menu of classic breakfast sandwiches and coffee that perfectly complements the star of the show. It’s the kind of place that inspires loyalty, with customers coming back for more of the "delicious mess" that is their bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich or the simple perfection of a bagel with their fresh cream cheese. The shop's reputation is built on this consistency and quality, making the line that forms during peak hours a well-understood rite of passage for those seeking a true New York bagel experience.
Leon's Bagels is conveniently located at 169 Thompson St Suite B, New York, NY 10012, USA. This address places it squarely in the vibrant and historic neighborhood of Greenwich Village. The shop's location near Washington Square Park and New York University makes it a popular stop for students, residents, and visitors alike.
The accessibility of Leon's is a key feature of its appeal. As a "quick visit" spot, it’s designed for efficiency, with a walk-up window that caters to the on-the-go nature of city life. For those with accessibility needs, the restaurant features a wheelchair-accessible entrance. While seating is limited and many customers choose to enjoy their food while exploring the surrounding area, this is part of the authentic, no-frills New York experience. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you’re looking for the best bagels in New York, Leon’s bagels is an absolute must-visit. Their bagels strike the perfect balance—crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. The flavor options are plentiful, but the classics like everything, sesame, and plain are unbeatable. Paired with their fresh cream cheese or smoked salmon, it’s a true New York experience. The shop has a steady flow of locals and tourists alike, which says a lot about its reputation. Be prepared to wait in line during peak hours, but trust me, the taste makes it worth every minute.
September 09 · Sureerut SuntakithWas dying to try Leon’s all trip and finally did my last day. My only critique is the wait, we probably waited over an hour in line + after ordering to get our food, not unexpected going at 10:45 on a weekend morning. But once we got it, worth the wait. The bagels were so delicious, each ingredient was delicious in its own right. And I already can’t wait to go back when I’m in New York next. I got a bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel with jalapeño cream cheese, an absolutely delicious mess.My friend got a sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel and she loved it. And don’t sleep on the coffee, the cold brew was sneaky amazing too. Highly recommend.
September 03 · Mike GoldbergLeon’s Bagels certainly lives up to the hype, though be prepared for a wait - lines can easily stretch 20 minutes or more. Fortunately, the service is quick, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The bagels themselves are outstanding: fresh from the oven, with perfect texture, generous fillings, and an unmistakable attention to quality and care.We tried the everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, tomatoes and onions. I’d rate it as a solid 9.5/10
September 15 · NishThe sausage, egg, and cheese bagel with mayo and ketchup is an elite combo! It gave me a very much worth it salt headache after. Every bite was amazing. Prob the best breakkie bagel I've had in recent memory. They are very generous with the cheddar so you get a beautiful pull, and I love it because you can actually taste the cheese in the bite and not just see it (what a waste otherwise, no?) Would go back again every time I feel hyponatremic.Highly recommend ordering online ahead. Very cute storefront but since they make your order with care, prepare to wait at least 20 min.Lovely place!
June 23 · Anna ChangYummy Yummy bagel in my tummy!Great experience if the wait ain’t long. The bagel itself is damn good, up there with the best spots I’ve had. Well toasted with a great chew. Everything bagel seasoning is spot on and overall makes for a damn good bagel. The sandwich preparation was a bit lacking. They clearly used shredded cheese which is normally not an issue but the guy who put it clearly had a heavy hand. I dont need a cheese pull like these influencers/basic-people want for their IG photos. Had to toss out some cheese cause it was way too much for me. Less cheese and slightly crispier bacon and it would be perfect.I will come back to have bagels with cream cheese here. I wouldn’t wait on a long line for it though. No bagel place in NYC is worth 30+ mins of wait if you’re a local.
