★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you haven’t had Sri Lankan food before, this is definitely the spot. I was unfamiliar with some of the menu items, but the waiter was kind enough to walk me through everything and really took the time to tend to us. The staff overall is very friendly and welcoming. The food itself is slightly different from traditional Indian cuisine, but it’s packed with spices and bold flavors. Highly recommend trying the hoppers, they’re perfect for dipping into curry dishes. I had the Kori Ghassi and it was phenomenal. For appetizers, the mutton roll is a great choice as well. All in all, a flavorful and memorable experience.
August 24 · Omar SHad lunch here yesterday with coworkers and really enjoyed it. We ordered the lunch thali special, which was very delicious and filling — a great mix of flavors and variety on one plate. The service was on the slower side, but our server was friendly and welcoming, so we didn’t mind taking our time. The space has a relaxed atmosphere, and there’s a nice outdoor area towards the back that would be perfect for a sunny day. Definitely planning to come back to try more from the menu.
August 09 · Alex GOne of the few good spots in Manhattan for such type of cuisine I would say.The vibes are nice, spacious seating, good for small and large groups alike.Got the tawa fish fry and the crispy chicken appetizers. The chicken was fresh , just enough crunchy with lots of flavor. Fish was nice but could be more marinated. The shrimp curry tasted great with the hopper. Would recommend getting the hopper for a refreshing simple taste.Shrimp in curry in itself was average. There was a nice mango sorbet plus guava ice cream dessert. Too sweet for me but was good.Overall a great stop!
July 03 · Bhakti DalviI had a fantastic meal at Lungi on the Upper East Side, and it’s safe to say this is one of the best spots for Indian coastal flavors in the city. The restaurant has a cozy vibe with plenty of seating, making it a comfortable place whether you’re coming in for a casual meal or a longer sit-down dinner. The atmosphere feels welcoming without being too formal, which makes the food shine even more. The dishes were absolutely outstanding. The mutton stew was hearty and flavorful, with tender pieces of meat in a rich, aromatic broth. The tawa fish fry (listed as “Deafman Shop” style) was a true highlight — perfectly spiced, crisp on the outside, and moist on the inside. The Malabar parantha was soft, flaky, and the perfect companion to soak up the curries. I also loved the curry leaves raita, which added a refreshing, slightly tangy balance to the meal. To finish, the masala chai was excellent — warming, aromatic, and a perfect end to the experience.Service was friendly and attentive, and the staff clearly care about making guests feel comfortable.Overall, Lungi delivers authentic flavors with real attention to detail. If you enjoy South Indian coastal cuisine, this place is a must-visit in the Upper East Side.
September 10 · Alok TewariIn the busy NYC, far from home, the food here brought back memories, warmth, and the taste of home!!!! Fish cutlet, Kerala beef chukka, Hoppers, Kori Ghassi (Mangalorian Chicken curry) and Malabar porotta were delicious and so authentic!!! The hoppers (Appam) were just like home-prepared, that was a total surprise!!! Cocktail and Moru drink were refreshing!! The service here is 5 stars!!! Our host, Akhil was pleasant and his service was top-notch!!! This place is a gem and a must visit!
