★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Ambiance (3/5): The establishment is very small with about 15 seats that face the chefs while they prepare the sushi. It's bright and low volume that you can hear each other. The space definitely feels a bit cramped. The stools were the worst part of the experience because there's no backing so I felt just uncomfortable the whole time.Service (5/5): We were seated immediately with our reservation time. We were attended to the whole meal and have no complaints.Hand rolls all tasted great. The salmon threw me off because I think there was a mayo-base in there but nevertheless still tastes great if you like mayo. Big fan of the fatty tuna and the waiyu. Did not really care for the yellowtail.Next time I'd like to try their other dishes for variety.
August 19 · Steph WStopped by MariNe for a recent Friday dinner -- our party of 2 didn't have reservations but there were plenty of seats available when we got there around 6:30. There are roughly 15-ish seats at the counter, where you can watch them make your hand rolls in front of you. The decor is rather simplistic overall -- I like the elegant colour scheme and the rather minimalist design throughout, although I have to say that the bar stools are not the most comfortable to sit on.I ordered the hand roll set (comes with 5) -- they allow one substitution, and I'm not a big fan of shrimp, so I swapped that with scallops. Overall, they were not bad. I thought the fish tasted very fresh across the board, and I really liked the fatty tuna and salmon rolls the most. The confit spicy tuna was interesting -- the savouriness of the confit paired with the spiciness was an unusual combo, and was not quite to my taste. The texture was also a bit too oily/heavy.Price point was fine -- just under $40 (incl tax/tip) for 5 rolls is not very cheap, but not crazy either. I think it would be nice to come back again to try some of their other dishes -- people seem to say the janchi guksu and uni toast are good choices, too.
September 06 · Matthew HoSolid handroll spot from the team behind Mari. After a great dinner at Mari, I had high hopes for this sister concept. Came in for a late weekday lunch and the counter still had plenty of open seats.I went with the 5-roll set and a yellowtail sashimi app. Everything was fairly priced and the handrolls were solid, but not the best I’ve had in this range. One detail I loved wasn’t the fish, but the sauces. Every seat came stocked with four house-made options, and the mustard soy and chili soy really added the flavors I wanted for the rolls. Not sure I’d pick this over some of the city’s lower-cost lunch omakase spots, but if you’re after something more filling than a poke bowl and less of a commitment than omakase, this is a great option.
September 06 · Jea KimWith delicious dishes and affordable prices, this place is a hidden gem in the heart of Times Square. The food was absolutely delicious, people were very nice and welcoming and the space is so intimate and inviting. I love the hand roll bar concept and I always love exploring new places. If you are a fan of this concept, you should definitely check this place out. We got the 5 Hand Rolls Set and extra Yellowtail, Shrimp and Mushroom (my favorite) rolls.
March 23 · MaraA m a z i n g. Amazing. AMAZING. The hand rolls were good too.Good service, not too crowded, nice ambiance, but the FOOD was PHENOMENAL.Definitely get the uni & toast and the scallop crudo if you want your mind blown.Of the hand rolls, the 5er was good. Especially the yellow fish.I’ll be back!
