Introduction / Overview: Panda Express in Sloatsburg, NY
For New Yorkers traveling north on the New York State Thruway (I-87), the Panda Express located at the Mile Marker 33 North Service Area in Sloatsburg offers a familiar and quick stop for American-Chinese cuisine. Operating as a fast-casual Chinese restaurant, it caters specifically to travelers, commuters, and tourists needing a convenient meal break. The establishment is part of a larger service area, providing easy access to various amenities necessary during a long journey. The brand is well-known nationally for popularizing dishes like Orange Chicken and aims to provide a reliable, if sometimes inconsistent, option for lunch and dinner on the go.
The atmosphere at this location, typical of a Thruway service center, is described as casual. It is designed to accommodate a diverse crowd, including college students passing through, groups on road trips, and tourists exploring the region. The focus here is on efficiency and providing comfort food and quick bites, making it a functional choice for those prioritizing speed and convenience over a traditional, sit-down dining experience.

What is Worth Choosing: Convenience and Familiarity
The primary reason this Panda Express location is worth considering for New York travelers is its unmatched convenience and the familiarity of its menu. When traversing the long stretches of the Thruway, a fast-casual stop that offers quick service and recognizable dishes is often exactly what drivers and passengers seek. It provides a quick and comforting break, allowing for a meal without the time commitment of exiting the highway or waiting for a table service restaurant.
However, potential visitors should manage their expectations, as is often the case with high-volume, highway-based establishments. Customer reviews indicate that, particularly near closing hours or during peak travel times, food quality and consistency, including portion sizes and the availability of fresh items, can be highly variable. Reports suggest instances of cold food, limited menu availability, and service issues, such as perceived lack of care in glove usage and inconsistent portioning. These criticisms are important for the public to consider; while the convenience of stopping at Mile Marker 33 North is exceptional, travelers seeking the highest quality or a full menu selection may wish to plan their stop earlier in the day. Despite these documented inconsistencies, for a rapid, familiar, and accessible meal right on the New York Thruway, Panda Express remains a default option for many looking for American-Chinese comfort food while on the move.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1They reliably stop making food about 2hrs before close. I got there 1.5hrs before closing, a busy holiday weekend, and I ordered a plate of food. They only had a few noodles and a lot of onion scraps for lo mein. They told me “you might want to just order the rice”. I don’t like rice, so I ended up with a plate of petrified onions that I did not eat. The chicken was cold and crunchy. The staff told the customer behind me that had food allergies they were not cooking more chicken and broccoli (the only food she could order) because they were closing. She left without eating, and I thew my food away. $13 for food I wouldn’t give away for free. Highway robbery, don’t even bother.
October 10 · Megan HenryStop at panda express just now in sloatburg ,NY I asked for a large box of chow mein I watched the server use the same gloves for every customer he served and rang up the order and wrote something after every customer then went to serving up the next customer without ever changing his gloves.the 3 customers before me order the same thing as me they had the large size container as well the server fills it to the top when I order mine he filled the container half way I m like why only half way his responds was some people want less if I wanted less wouldn't I order a small or medium? Then he is like some people want less so they don't have throw any out made no sense never been to a panda express and probably never will again.when I open the container the box was full of onions and hardly any chow mein noodles like I was given only scraps.not worth the wait or money.
October 15 · barbara gregsonFuel for the Road at Sloatsburg Travel Plaza, NYIf you’re road-tripping along the New York State Thruway (I-87) and need a solid break, the Sloatsburg Travel Plaza is a surprisingly good pit stop. On our way northbound, we pulled off at Exit 33N and were pleasantly surprised by the range of food options and clean, modern setup. It’s more than just your typical gas-and-go spot.We stopped for lunch and went big with Panda Express—and I mean big. The portions here were generous, which is exactly what you need when you’re a few hours into a drive and still have more miles ahead. I had the Orange Chicken and Kung Pao Chicken, both of which hit the spot. The orange chicken had that perfect sweet-and-savory balance with a crispy coating, while the kung pao had a nice kick and a good mix of veggies and peanuts for crunch. The dining area was clean and had plenty of seating, which made for a comfortable, quick lunch break. Service was efficient, even though it was decently busy.If you’re heading through Sloatsburg, NY, and your stomach starts growling, this travel plaza is a great spot to refuel—both your car and yourself.
May 01 · R KExcellent place to grab a quick nutritious meal. Food was fresh and excellent. Service was nice and friendly unlike other establishments (Shake Shack) and no high cost for a turnpike location. Prices are at standard market value in comparison to other NY Panda Expresses. Very nice! Thanks for having employees who actually believe in helping customers.
February 03 · James GambriellInsane prices here. Used to be $9.60 for a bowl in February and now in April its $12. That's not to even mention how much non-thruway restaurants cost. $6.35 for a bowl at a regular location. Total greed here.
