What is worth choosing
For New Yorkers and Long Island residents planning a visit to Pollo Campero, certain items consistently stand out and are highly recommended to capture the full flavor experience.
The centerpiece of the menu, and the reason many patrons return, is the chicken itself. Customers are encouraged to try a combination of the signature Campero Fried Chicken—which provides a perfectly crispy texture and deep flavor from its unique seasoning—and the Slow Roasted Grilled Chicken for a lighter, but equally juicy, citrus-infused option. The Four Piece Special is a great way to sample both chicken styles, plus two house-made sides.
A must-try side dish, frequently highlighted by local reviewers, is the Yuca Fries. These cassava root fries are praised as a delicious, distinct alternative to traditional French fries and are best enjoyed with the proprietary Campero Signature Sauce. While the Mac & Cheese is noted for being very creamy, guests should be aware of a potentially high sodium content, as mentioned in customer feedback. For a true taste of Latin America, the savory Campero Rice and Campero Beans are highly recommended staples.
When it comes to beverages, move past the standard soda choices and opt for one of the specialty drinks. The creamy and sweet Horchata is a classic choice, and the Jamaica Drink (hibiscus iced tea) offers a slightly tart and incredibly refreshing counterpoint to the savory chicken. The Peach/Nectarine drink is a solid alternative for those who enjoy the flavor of mango.
The Empanada Trio Meal is also a great choice for a flavorful, individual-sized offering. These crispy, golden-brown pockets are stuffed with pulled chicken, roasted corn, peppers, onion, and Monterey Jack cheese, seasoned with the smokey and tangy Signature Campero sauce, making them a satisfying quick bite. Finally, for a newer offering, the Campero Spicy Chicken Sandwich is worth exploring for a fiery kick with its habanero-based sauce and delicious white-meat fillet served on a soft, buttered brioche bun. Whether you are grabbing a quick Two Piece Meal for lunch or bringing home an 8 Piece Family Meal for dinner, Pollo Campero provides a consistently flavorful, satisfying, and authentically Latin American dining experience in Hempstead.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Came here based on a recommendation. The chicken is juicy. Even in a classic chicken sandwich with nothing on it - literally just the chicken between the bun, it was juicy. The yuca fries is a must. The Mac and cheese is very creamy, but few bites in started to taste salty. Good thing the family meal came with 2 drinks. I tried the hibiscus drink and the peach/nectarine drink. If you like mango flavor, go with the peach/nectarine. If you like slightly tart, go with the hibiscus. The plantains taste like plantains; nothing special. The buns taste like Hawaiian rolls. It’s unfortunate the chicken only comes in thighs and legs. No breasts. You can order it grilled or fried. Opted for fried. Compared to larger chicken franchises like Popeyes or KFC, Pollo Campero does not offer mashed potatoes or gravy. They do come with Campero rice, beans, Cole slaw, and sweet potato fries, which I didn’t get. I ordered one empanada to try. It’s pancake flat, which I’m not used to eating after trying other empanada spots, but maybe it’s a cultural thing? A family meal with one empanada and just a sandwich cost around $62. Erred a little on the pricey side for me.
