What is Worth Choosing: A Local's Perspective
South Slope Ramen is more than just a place to grab a meal; it is a beloved neighborhood spot that delivers consistent quality and a warm, casual experience. For New Yorkers in search of authentic Japanese comfort food, this is a must-visit location.
The number one reason to choose South Slope Ramen is the depth and authenticity of the ramen broth. Unlike many places where the broth might be thin or lacking, here it is the star. Customers specifically mention the Pai Tan broth being "legit" and well-made, suggesting a slow-simmered bone broth that creates a comforting and savory base for the entire dish.
If you are visiting for the first time, you should consider one of the following highly-praised items to get a true taste of what they offer:
- Pai Tan Ramen (Signature): A straight-noodle dish with a rich, house-made pork and chicken bone broth. This is their foundation and an excellent choice for a classic, deeply satisfying bowl.
- Birria Beef Ramen: For the adventurous palate, this fusion dish offers tender, Mexican-style brisket that provides an unexpected and delicious twist on a familiar favorite. Reviewers note the beef is "so tender and flavorful."
- Kimchi Ramen: Praised for its robust flavor and generous portion size, the Kimchi Ramen is a spicy, savory option that delivers an extra kick.
- Tan Tan Ramen: A popular choice featuring a spicy sesame broth topped with spicy ground pork, which provides a nutty, fiery warmth.
Beyond the noodles, don't overlook the appetizers. The Pork Buns and the pork Cha Han (fried rice) are frequently noted for being exceptionally delicious and well-prepared. The inclusion of extensive and thoughtful Vegetarian options, such as the Veg. Miso and Veg. Shoyu Ramen, also makes this restaurant a strong choice for plant-based diners who are often left with limited choices at other ramen spots. In a bustling city full of dining options, South Slope Ramen provides authentic, high-quality, and hearty Japanese cuisine in an easy-going setting—a perfect formula for a true New York neighborhood favorite.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Got chicken pai tan ramen, birria ramen, spicy pork buns and seaweed salad. All were delicious with great portions. I ordered an extra chicken ramen to have leftovers and when i pulled it out of the fridge the next day to reheat, i was so impressed by how gelatinous the broth was, which means it’s really well-made bone broth. Their soup is legit! So comforting and also healthy.
June 10 · Anna NigmaReally good ramen that hits the spot. They are not sheisty with the broth like other ramen places. Hearty serving and I opted for extra charshu. Fried calamari appetizer was also delicious. Seating is tricky. Not very cozy restaurant. But if you’re looking for good ramen with a no frills vibe this is the place. Better for casual and eating alone. Not a date place as the atmosphere feels very bare bones… not in a minimal Japanese way but more in a cold cheap deli kind of way. But the ramen is 👍🏼👍🏼
March 16 · LIEMstrictly takeout for me but a godsend: the most reliable ramen spot in South Slope! The pork belly is always the perfect size and texture - the ramen has the right bite to it - the broth can be savored entirely on its own. I took the plunge and ordered birria ramen today- and it was absolutely delicious! The beef is so tender and flavorful- like a Mexican style brisket! I don’t care for raw onions in my ramen, but otherwise it was a roaring success, the soup was fantastic. Their wings are tasty too and the chahan (fried rice) is perfection - reminds me of the chahan I had growing up in Tokyo - just wish fora side of white pepper to make it the most nostalgic bite. such a good spot.
October 11 · Sylvia Rupani-SmithRamen was fantastic (the veggie miso is STELLAR) but the people are even more wonderful. An all-star kitchen, we were never without water, and it was just a fun vibe for a casual sit-down meal. 1000/10, can't wait to come back and try more food!
July 17 · Merriya ValleriI had their signature ramen and their classic, friend Rice and Kate age (fried chicken). Food was delicious friend rice was very tasty, couldn't get enough of it.Now their ramen, their pork slices practically melt mouth (Homer Simpson drool), soup base it's so rich & creamy for their signature dish. Will Def be coming back here, especially with the chilly weather around the corner?
