The SSam - Midtown Introduce
In the vibrant and fast-paced heart of New York City, finding a meal that is both healthy and genuinely satisfying can be a challenge. That's where The SSam - Midtown comes in. This Korean restaurant, with its focus on the traditional 'ssam' concept, offers a fresh and modern take on Korean comfort food. Ssam, which translates to 'wrap' in Korean, is a dish where various ingredients are wrapped in a leafy vegetable or, in this case, a low-carb rice paper. The SSam takes this idea and elevates it, combining fresh, vibrant vegetables with high-quality marinated proteins to create a meal that is both delicious and guilt-free. Located in the bustling Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, The SSam is a casual and welcoming spot that's become a favorite among locals looking for a quick, wholesome, and flavorful meal. It's a place that proves healthy eating doesn't have to sacrifice taste, making it a perfect choice for anyone who cares about what they put into their body.
The menu at The SSam is centered around its signature wraps, or ssam, which are a true highlight. Each wrap is a medley of fresh ingredients including egg, cucumber, carrot, apple, bell peppers, tomato, lettuce, avocado, onion, mint, cilantro, and perilla leaf, all meticulously wrapped in delicate rice paper. You can choose from a variety of proteins to be the star of your wrap, such as the flavorful **Bulgogi (Marinated Beef) Ssam**, the zesty **Jeyuk (Spicy Pork) Ssam**, or the popular **Chicken SSam**. For those who prefer a different kind of meal, The SSam also offers delicious rice bowls with the same protein options. The **Bulgogi (Beef) Over Rice** is a fan favorite, providing a hearty and satisfying meal. The menu also features classic Korean sides like **Pork Mandoo** and **Galbi Mandoo** (Korean dumplings), which are perfect complements to the main dishes. Customers rave about the food's fresh, clean, and flavorful taste, often noting that it feels both healthy and filling at the same time. The owner's personal touch and friendly demeanor, as mentioned in multiple reviews, also add to the inviting atmosphere, making every visit a pleasant experience.
While The SSam does have some small tables for a casual dine-in experience, its primary focus is on efficient takeout and delivery. This model is perfectly suited for the New York lifestyle, where convenience is key. Whether you're an office worker grabbing a lunch to go, a resident ordering a healthy dinner, or a tourist looking for a quick and satisfying meal, The SSam has you covered. The commitment to quality and freshness is evident in every bite, and it's clear that the food is prepared with care and attention to detail. It's a place that has built a loyal following among locals who appreciate its commitment to providing delicious, high-quality, and wholesome Korean food.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The price might seem a bit high at first, but once you get your food, you realize it's totally worth it. Everything looks clean and fresh, and when you take a bite, you can really taste the care in the ingredients. Mine was filled with high-quality bulgogi and wrapped with egg like a soft layer of chicken—it felt healthy and satisfying at the same time.If you care about what goes into your body but still want something delicious, this place is the right choice. The owner was also incredibly kind. The food was clean, flavorful, and felt made with love. I highly recommend this spot for anyone on a healthy, high-protein low-carb diet.
May 22 · C. LeeTried the Jeyuk Ssam and pork dumplings and they were delicious! This place is near my office so I wanted to try them, and I will definitely come again! There are some small two-person tables and chair for dining in, but it’s primarily a take out spot. There’s also nowhere to order in person, you can only order online. The owner (didn’t catch his name) was really nice and friendly! He asked if we had any feedback, so here it is :)The jeyuk was very flavorful and delicious, but I thought the roll would be a little easier to eat if the pork was cut into smaller pieces! Sometimes my bite would end up pulling out a big chunk of pork because pork is nice and thick but could be hard to bite through. When ordering we got a side of the signature sauce (very delicious! A great blend of sweet, acidic, and slightly funky/spicy). We didn’t realize an order came with sesame sauce and signature sauce already, so we ended up having three sauces. The order menu does say “Extra Sauce” but I think it would be helpful to mention which sauces are included in the description. This last one is just personal preference but I would love the option to add some raw garlic to the roll! I think it would be a tasty addition
June 04 · Angelica PanSo yummy! The service was very quick and food packaged nicely :) I got the chicken burrito and omg 😳 chicken is seasoned very well and the veggies are super fresh. It comes with two different sauces: one creamy sweet one and one spicy. The creamy one was definitely my fav but they both go really well when paired together. I also got the pork dumplings and they were also great. Didn’t come with any sauce so you may have to ask for it! Overall really great quality for the price. Will be coming back when I’m working in the area.
April 14 · Avalon ColeJust walked in, ordered online and didn’t have to wait for long. This is great for ordering ahead and picking it up to go. The food was absolutely delicious. We got the Bulgogi and the Jeyuk ssams. They were light, filling, and very flavorful. Very delicious. Definitely worth the price. The grape and pear drinks are very delicious and refreshing as well. The owner was super nice. Definitely stop by here if you can, you won’t be disappointed.
August 01 · Juliana McCarthyive ordered from this place via delivery and picked up once(they work out of a ghost kitchen, so it is not a sit down style restaurant. its built out for take out and delivery orders). i have only ordered and tried the chicken ssam and spicy chicken rice bowl. both items are so so fresh and so incredibly satiating! love the crunchy, julienned slaw that is inside the rice paper wrap. great healthy, high protein, fresh option!
