The location is ideal for grabbing a quick lunch during the workday or a pre-show dinner. As with much of the city, street parking can be challenging, but there are paid parking lots nearby. The restaurant’s excellent proximity to major subway lines and its easy-to-find location on 8th Avenue make it highly accessible for both local residents and tourists.
The atmosphere inside is casual and trendy, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal. While the counter service is quick and efficient, there is seating available for those who wish to dine in. Criollas offers a focused but well-rounded menu that highlights the best of Argentinian baked goods and a few other key items.
Empanadas: The star of the show, these baked pockets of goodness come in a variety of savory flavors. Options include the classic Argentine Malbec Beef, tender Brisket, and Slow Cooked Pork. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available, such as the Funghi and Creamy Corn empanadas. They also offer catering boxes for larger events.
Sauces: To complement your empanadas, Criollas offers a choice of two authentic sauces: Spicy Sauce and Chimichurri Sauce, both available for a small additional cost.
Sweets and Desserts: Indulge in authentic Argentine sweets like the famous Alfajores, which are shortbread cookies filled with dulce de leche and covered in chocolate. Other options include Croissants (plain or with dulce de leche), Pastafrola, and Dulce De Leche Cones. The dessert menu also features Franuí, a unique treat of raspberries covered in chocolate.
Beverages: The drink menu is comprehensive, offering a range of hot and cold beverages. You can get your coffee or hot tea fix, along with a selection of soft drinks, bottled water, and Naked Juices. They also offer hot chocolate for a comforting treat.
Yerba Mate and Merchandise: Criollas goes beyond food and drink by providing a selection of Yerba Mate products. This includes various brands of Yerba, as well as the traditional Gourd (Mate) and straw (Bombilla), and other related merchandise like tote bags and picnic bags. This offering further cements its status as an authentic Argentinian establishment.
Combos: For those who want to try a variety of items or save on their order, Criollas provides excellent combo deals. These include packages for multiple empanadas, often with free items like Chipa (a cheese bread), and a special combo that includes empanadas, an alfajor, and a drink.
Several aspects of Criollas make it a standout choice for anyone in the Hell's Kitchen area.
Authentic and Healthy Options: The restaurant’s dedication to authenticity is a major draw. As one customer noted, the beef malbec empanada reminds them of the ones in Argentina. Furthermore, the focus on baked, rather than fried, empanadas caters to health-conscious diners looking for a lean and satisfying meal.
Variety and Value: The menu provides a good balance between a limited, expert-focused selection and a satisfying variety. The combo deals offer a great value, allowing customers to try more for a better price. The small plates format also makes it ideal for a quick bite or for sharing a few different flavors with friends.
Friendly and Helpful Staff: Customer service is a major highlight, with reviews consistently praising the staff for being friendly, welcoming, and helpful. They are known to point out the best deals and guide indecisive customers, making the ordering process simple and pleasant.
Unique Offerings: Criollas goes beyond its core product by offering authentic Argentine sweets like Alfajores and even Yerba Mate products. This makes it a unique destination for those seeking an authentic cultural experience in addition to a tasty meal.
Convenient Services: With options for curbside pickup, no-contact delivery, takeout, and dine-in, Criollas makes it easy for customers to enjoy their food however they prefer. The Wi-Fi amenity is a nice bonus for those dining in.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is one of the few Argentinan Empanada places that I know of and its the bomb!! The beef malbec empanada is soo good and reminds me of the ones in Argentina which I miss dearly. If youre looking for authentic empanadas and alfajores this is the place. Another thing I would like to add is how friendly the staff are. They point you towards deals that they have which is super helpful for people who are indecisive.
August 22 · soap5 stars for healthy, but definitely not the tastiest empanadas. If eating lean is a priority, hard to top this place.Had the chicken, pastor, tomato, and spinach. Pastor and spinach were the hits.
August 17 · Nando: City WalkerPerfect for a bite on the go or quick stop while you explore the city. The Argentine Malbec Beef Empanada is delicious! They offer great promos, accesible prices for tasty food.
August 01 · Anthony MFinally got a chance to stop in while visiting the city. The staff are super nice and offered to share their favorites they personally enjoy. Ended up going with the brisket and spinach versions. These are some of the best empanadas I’ve had in a long time. Perfect for a quick bite or grab a few and make a meal out of them. I imagine you can’t go wrong with any of them. Can’t wait to go back!
July 24 · Michael PaglicciIt's surprisingly difficult to find good empanadas (Argentine or otherwise) in Manhattan, so I'm really happy to have found Criollas, a legit Argentine empanada spot. The two must-tries are Malbec-beef and the ham and cheese, which are two very different experiences but both very good. The beef is a great size, the dough is great and the meat is tasty (get it with chimichurri). The Ham and Cheese is very creamy, in line with the Argentine style of empanada, but very different from what you'll find elsewhere in Latin America. I also tried the smoked chicken and the fungho, which were good, but not my favesI'll def be back to try all the rest.
