What is Worth Choosing
El Continental Restaurant is worth choosing for the discerning New York diner for several compelling reasons, starting with its unique culinary focus. While the restaurant has a broad Latin American menu featuring popular items like T-bone Steak and Grilled Chicken Cutlet, its dedication to authentic Salvadoran cuisine, particularly the Pupusas, offers a distinct and delicious experience not easily found everywhere. The variety of these stuffed tortillas—from simple cheese to the more complex Pupusas Cheese / Loroco or Pupusas Cheese / Chicken—makes them a must-try local specialty.
Beyond the food, the comprehensive nature of the service is a major advantage. It is a one-stop-shop for dining, offering full lunch, dinner, and even breakfast menus, all backed by a complete bar service. This flexibility, coupled with fast service, makes it an excellent choice for any time of day, whether you are looking for a quick, comforting solo meal or hosting a group. The ability to reserve a table, the availability of late-night food, and the friendly, quick-to-respond staff create a hassle-free and enjoyable outing.
However, as with any bustling New York eatery, customers should be aware of the portions, particularly for certain dinner entrees, as one review noted that the meat quantity in the Beef Stew was less generous than expected for the price. When ordering, especially for takeout or delivery, it may be advisable to inquire about portion sizes or to prioritize the highly-praised appetizers and signature small plates like the various Pupusas, Casava Yuca with Fried Pork, or the Shrimps Cocktail, which are excellent for a quick bite or starter.
Ultimately, El Continental Restaurant offers a reliable, cozy, and culturally rich dining experience on 5th Avenue. It is a true local spot, proudly Latino-owned, that provides a valuable service to the community with its fast, accommodating service and diverse, flavorful menu. For a taste of Salvadoran and Latin American comfort food in a welcoming Brooklyn setting, El Continental should be high on your list.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I ordered the beef stew with white rice and beans. The plate was mostly rice and beans and literally 3 pieces of beef. I do not like how little meat you get for $14. They are not serving the public properly.
May 14 · David LopezI just stopped by for a quick bite. There's a lot of seating. Besides the seating at the front of the restaurant there's another room for more guests. The staff is friendly and pretty quick to respond. I had Papusas and an horchata. They food and drinks was okay but didn't particularly stick out.
April 29 · Jay AlbertGreat place for regional Central American fare. Chicken Tamales we're great, but I come here for pupusas! The bean and chicharrón are amazing and the toppings are great. Ask for their jalapeno sauce for an added kick. Great prices and nice homey interior! Highly recommended!
July 22 · Raji NService is great and fast. Food is awesome and flavorful. Place is clean and has a good vibe. Great for families. Overall my experience was great can’t complain. If you are in the area and want some authentic Salvadorean food then try them out.
