What is Worth Choosing
Momokawa offers a truly impressive and diverse menu, but certain items and experiences stand out as particularly noteworthy. The sashimi plate, for instance, is a popular choice for good reason. As one customer noted, the fish is consistently fresh and satisfying, a testament to the restaurant's commitment to high-quality ingredients. For those who want to try something a bit different, the Seaweed Salad is an unexpected delight, featuring a colorful mix of seaweed varieties with different textures, offering a fun and unique tasting experience. This attention to detail and willingness to offer elevated versions of classic dishes is what sets Momokawa apart from other Japanese restaurants in the city.
The Sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu experiences are highlights that are perfect for those seeking a more interactive and comforting meal. While a customer review mentioned a mixed experience with the Sukiyaki's soup base, the restaurant's willingness to adjust and help with the cooking process speaks to their attentive service. A different review raved about the Sukiyaki, recommending it for cold days and praising the staff for helping with the beef preparation. This communal and warm dining style is perfect for a chilly New York evening and offers a deeply satisfying and flavorful meal. The option to order a solo portion for half the price is a fantastic feature, making this typically group-oriented dish accessible for solo diners, a thoughtful touch that adds to the restaurant's appeal.
For sushi lovers, the menu offers an extensive array of options, from a la carte selections like O Toro and Uni (Japan) | Sea Urchin to a variety of special rolls. The Shrimp Tempura Roll and the Spicy Tuna Roll are excellent choices for a classic roll, while the Toro-Taku Roll and Spicy Rock Shrimp Roll offer a more unique flavor profile. The restaurant also caters to those who prefer something other than sushi with delicious entrees like the Wagyu Beef Steak Gozen and the Organic Miso Teriyaki Salmon. These dishes showcase the restaurant's ability to create perfectly executed cooked meals with the same care and quality as their sushi. Momokawa’s commitment to providing a wide range of high-quality, authentic dishes in a comfortable and welcoming environment makes it an excellent choice for any occasion, whether it's a special dinner or a casual lunch. It is a genuine Japanese dining experience that feels both refined and accessible, a perfect blend for the New York City food scene.

sukiyakishabu shabuoysterswagyuribeyehot potappetizersdipbrothmiyazaki beef
★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Overall experience was good but not outstanding. The sashimi plate was satisfying and all the fish was fresh. The seaweed salad was a bit unexpected but in a good way - I didn't anticipate a full plate of colorful varieties of seaweeds! They each have slightly different textures. It was fun trying them. The sukiyaki experience was a bit underwhelming. The meat served was good quality, but the soup base was too sweet and too salty. After cooking for a while we had to ask the waitress to add water a couple of times. I may try the shabu shabu next time. Also note to solo diners - although the menu indicated sukiyaki or shabu shabu are only for 2 ppl, you can actually ask for a solo portion for half the price.
April 20 · Joyce ZhouThe sukiyaki was amazing! Recommended for cold days for sure. Service was great too, they would help you yo cook the beef. Whole place is clean and quiet.
May 28 · Di WuHad salmon teriyaki , was pretty good .The avocado roll was just ok.Service was very good .Atmosphere ain’t bad.I would definitely come back for the salmon.
August 29 · ThomasWe came for their iconic sukiyaki on a snowy day and it was perfect! Ordered the most basic meat option but the quality was already nice and enough for us. We walked in around 4pm without a reservation and the place wasn’t crowded, creating a really cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend to come around this time. All staffs were nice and their plum sparkling drink was good as well😌
February 10 · Nancy YenDecent Experience at MomokawaI recently dined at Momokawa, and while it wasn’t bad, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The ambiance was nice and cozy, with a traditional Japanese vibe, and the service was decent—attentive enough, though nothing particularly stood out.As for the food, it was decent but not great. The sushi was fine, but they didn’t blow me away. The sukiyaki, which I was looking forward to, was decent. Everything was cooked well, but the flavors didn’t quite pop.One thing to keep in mind is that Momokawa is on the pricier end, which made the “just decent” meal feel a bit underwhelming for the cost. Overall, it’s not a bad spot, but not amazing.
