Pastis Introduce
In a city of ever-changing culinary trends, some establishments achieve an iconic status that transcends time. Pastis is one such place. Originally opened in 1999 by the legendary restaurateur Keith McNally, it quickly became a staple of the New York City scene, a bustling French bistro that defined the revitalization of the Meatpacking District. After a brief hiatus, its much-anticipated return in 2019 was met with city-wide excitement, and it has since recaptured its place as a quintessential New York dining destination. Pastis is more than a restaurant; it's an experience, a slice of Parisian life transplanted to the cobblestone streets of downtown Manhattan. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of cozy and trendy, with its classic curved zinc bar, vintage mirrors, mosaic-tiled floors, and a warm, golden glow that makes every guest feel like a star. It’s a place that buzzes with energy, where the clinking of glasses and lively chatter create a symphony of social dining. Pastis serves as a hub for a diverse crowd, attracting everyone from fashion designers and artists to tourists and local families, all united by a desire for classic French fare in a vibrant, upscale setting. This unique blend of timeless charm and modern energy is what makes Pastis a truly essential part of New York City’s dining landscape.
The menu at Pastis is a celebration of classic French bistro cuisine, executed with a dedication to authenticity and quality. It's a culinary journey that honors tradition while presenting it with a modern sensibility. The daily specials, such as the Monday Dover Sole Sauce Grenobloise and the Saturday Braised Rabbit, offer a taste of traditional French home cooking. For brunch, classics like Eggs Benedict and Croque Madame are perfectly prepared, while the dinner menu features French staples that have earned a stellar reputation. The Steak Frites, a perennial favorite, is praised by reviewers for its perfectly cooked steak and crispy fries. The Moules Frites, a dish of mussels in a wine broth served with a generous side of fries, is also a highly recommended option. The menu also includes rich and flavorful appetizers like the Onion Soup, Escargots, and the "super unique and absolutely delicious" Crispy Artichokes. The desserts, from the Passion Fruit Tart to the classic Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée, are the perfect way to cap off the meal. Beyond the food, Pastis is also celebrated for its excellent cocktails and a great wine list, showcasing selections that perfectly complement the French fare. The quality and variety of the offerings, from breakfast to late-night food, ensure that every visit is a memorable one, and the attentive service ensures the entire experience "runs like clockwork."
The atmosphere at Pastis is a key part of its appeal. It manages to feel both casual and romantic, trendy yet cozy, creating a space where people can feel at home whether they're on a first date or a family vacation. The staff are noted for being "super attentive without being overbearing," a testament to the restaurant's commitment to impeccable service. The interior, with its classic bistro design, is an homage to old-world charm, but the energy of the crowd and the vibrancy of the Meatpacking District outside infuse it with a distinctly modern, New York feel. It’s a place that is consistently busy, often with a wait, which speaks to its enduring popularity. This lively, bustling atmosphere is a highlight for many, making it a perfect spot for people-watching and soaking in the energy of the city. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, brunch reservations are highly recommended, as are reservations for lunch and dinner. The venue's ability to seamlessly transition from a morning coffee spot to a bustling lunch destination and a romantic evening eatery is a testament to its expertly managed operation. It's a place where every detail, from the decor to the service, is carefully curated to transport you to a different time and place, all without leaving the heart of New York.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The steak was perfectly cooked, the scallops were rich and flavorful, and even the escargot was spot on. But the best was the fried artichoke, super unique and absolutely delicious. The vibe is amazing, buzzing with energy but still comfortable and welcoming. Whether you’re there for a casual lunch or a nice dinner out, it just works. The staff are super attentive without being overbearing, and service runs like clockwork.Definitely one of the top spots I’ve eaten at in NYC.
July 29 · AzzamWe went to Pastis while on a family vacation in New York. It was fairly easy to get a reservation, the food and staff were excellent. Our favorite dishes on the menu were the fries and the steak. Also the steak tartare and escargot were amazing. The fish dish we had was OK. I would’ve rather gotten another steak dish instead. We ended up ordering several plates and splitting everything. This was one of my favorite meals we had while on vacation.
August 03 · Laci Jackson JacksonOverall, 7/10 from me. Pancakes were delicious- nice and fluffy with a good portion size as well. Coffee bar was solid and service was great. Only issue we had was with the bacon - it was $12 and we only got 3 strips... Definitely would pass on that in the future. Prices outside of that are very reasonable!
September 01 · DannyAlways a reliable go-to with lots of seating outdoors and inside. Easy to get a table and very friendly and fast service! Food is always great, particularly love the steak tartare, fried artichokes, and the fries. Also like the salads verte for freshness to balance the pate champagne. Nice bread and salty butter too.
August 12 · Maria YuBeautiful restaurant. The scallop crudo was good, the trout among the best ever, and the spaghetti pomodoro was excellent. The duck however was not fresh, had a funky smell and had to be returned.Service was strange but the absolute worst was the constant asking if we were done and if they could take our plates. One time they asked and we hadn’t even eaten half our food! The restaurant had lots of free tables not sure why they were pushing us out so hard. Anyway the manager was very nice about the duck.
