The Auction House Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For New York locals searching for an escape from the city’s standard bar scene, The Auction House offers a compelling, sophisticated alternative right on the Upper East Side. Located discreetly at 300 E 89th St, this establishment is far more than a typical neighborhood bar; it is an experience, often described by patrons as a hidden gem with a distinctive speakeasy or Victorian-inspired salon vibe. It manages to deliver a rare combination of old-school glamour and approachable comfort, feeling like a secret, luxurious gathering spot without any of the gimmicks.
As soon as you step inside, you are transported to a world reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties or a classic film set. The atmosphere is enchantingly dark and intimate, characterized by dim lighting, plush red velvet couches, antique decor, dangling chandeliers, and a cozy fireplace area. The musical accompaniment—often soft swing or jazz—perfectly complements the setting, creating a mature and romantic environment that is a stark contrast to the more bustling, casual spots in the area. This unique ambiance has made The Auction House a highly sought-after destination for romantic dates, celebrating special occasions, and impressing out-of-town guests.
While the atmosphere is a major draw, the true highlight for many New Yorkers is the expertly curated beverage program. The bar specializes in Great Cocktails, crafted with precision and featuring high-end spirits and creative ingredients. House cocktails like the Ruby Slipper, Jalapeno Margarita, and Smoke And Honey are noted for being both delicious and beautifully presented. In addition to a full bar offering Alcohol, Beer, Hard liquor, and Wine, a surprisingly comprehensive food menu is available, featuring comfort food and pescatarian/vegetarian-friendly options like Mushroom Scallops & Potato Crisps and Roasted Pumpkin & Sweet Potato Gnocchi. The staff, known for their friendly and knowledgeable service, are happy to customize drinks, ensuring a perfect night out.
This unique blend of refined ambiance, quality drinks, and attentive service positions The Auction House as a must-visit destination for those seeking a unique and unforgettable night out without having to venture downtown.

February 19 · Stefanie EimesserI hosted my birthday party at the Auction House and everyone was wonderful!! Megan, the coordinator, was extremely communicative, organized and friendly. Paul and John, the bartenders, were a joy to work with. They were very attentive, helpful, and brought a fun energy to the event.A lot of my friends hadn’t been here before and really found it to be such a gem. The space was perfect for the masquerade theme, the prices of the drinks are reasonable, and they let me make a specialty cocktail for the night! It was such an iconic night and experience, I couldn’t have done it without this place!I can’t wait to come back and try out their new drink menu and make more memories.
