For a true New York pizza and Italian experience at The House of Pizza & Calzone, the choice is clear: gravitate towards the specialties that have earned the restaurant its sterling reputation and dedicated patronage.
The first and most critical choice is the namesake **Deep Fried Calzone ($8.50)**. This item is described by locals as “infamous” and “great,” solidifying its status as a must-try. It is a handheld marvel of dough, cheese, and fillings, fried to a perfect golden crisp—a truly classic, old-school Brooklyn delicacy.
The second essential order is the **Grandma's Pizza ($22.50)**. This specific specialty pie is so good that it left a lasting impression on a reviewer who first tried it at the end of a long pizza tour, confirming its superior flavor and quality even on a full stomach. This square pie, known for its thin crust, rectangular shape, and traditional layering of ingredients, is the essence of their celebrated "Brooklyn... how it used to be" ethos.
Beyond the signature items, The House of Pizza & Calzone shines in its broad range of authentic Italian comfort food. The **Homemade Meatballs ($7.00)** are a surprising but strong contender for a must-order, specifically called out in a review as "some of the best meat balls ever," making them a perfect side or addition to the **Spaghetti & Meatballs ($13.95)** dish. For pizza aficionados seeking something new, the trendy **Hot Honey Pepperoni Square ($37.50)** and the highly praised **Primadonna Pizza ($27.00)** are excellent choices that showcase the kitchen's creativity and high-quality ingredients.
New Yorkers looking for a filling appetizer or side should explore the unique **Stromboli Pizza Rolls**—with options like **Sausage And Broccoli Rabe Stromboli ($10.50)**—or the traditional **Arancini Di Riso** (rice balls), which offer a perfect, quick taste of Sicilian street food culture right here in Brooklyn. The overall atmosphere, combined with the gracious hospitality, which one reviewer noted included an unexpected "dessert on the house," solidifies The House of Pizza & Calzone as a welcoming and delicious destination where the incredible food is matched by its community spirit.

The House of Pizza & Calzone Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Pretty good! Their infamous calzones are great as well as their grandma slice. I first came here on a pizza tour and had the grandma slice—it was the last site but still good even though we were pretty full, so you know it's good. I later ordered their traditional pizza (some sort of supreme type jazz) which I was less impressed with, so if I go back, it'll be back to the calzones and grandma slices for me.
April 17 · LorenWe had the nicest evening in NYC right here. With dessert on the house, I don’t know your name young pal but you and the crew were great. Not only great pizza (try the Primadonna), but also some of the best meat balls ever. As they say themselves: “Brooklyn… how it used to be”. Loved it. We would be back if it weren’t for the fact that we came all the way from Holland to visit you :). Thank you!
September 28 · Nelleke HijmansGood pizza. Cute restaurant. Good service. Would eat here again.
April 13 · Susan McGowanA memorable walk along the red hood waterfronts dilapidated structures, a checkerboard of parks and off limits areas, piers, woods, trains nothing but rust, hoards of tricked out mopeds with UV strobe lights doing wheelies with this pizza as delinquent fuel 8.5/10 prosciutto margarita
May 16 · Jessie DeardorffSearching a bunch of pizza reviews, tryna find the best place, or wanna get something that's clutch, hit-the-spot, satisfying? The search is over. This is the brooklyn pizza you are looking for.You can order for pickup, or eat-in; get a slice, or order a whole pie.Once inside, you get an immediate classic (dated?) pizzeria vibe, and walking past the drink fridge, slice counter and ovens, they have a big dinning room to accommodate large groups in the back with TVs, along with a glass walled garden patio. After eating, my takeaway thoughts were: big slices, fresh ingredients, great crust, and bit greasy.I got a plain cheese pie, and one pepperoni with Mike's infamous hot honey cooked well done. Both were fantastic.Get the marinara on the side for dipping. You won't be disappointed.
