★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1No words to describe the time I spent at Marjorie’s place, she is one of the kindest, most genuine souls I've encountered in nyc. At first, it was tricky to find the right door but then we just followed the music! We went on a Saturday and it happened to be empty, so we had an intimate experience. I’ll definitely be back every time I’m in the city.Sedric and Marjorie, if you happen to remember the Portuguese girl you chatted with — please never lose your spark. The world needs more artists like you. Keep shining and inspiring! ❤️
April 21 · Rita PássaroWhat an amazing experience! I visited Marjorie Eliot’s Parlor jazz this weekend having first visited in 2015. The flat is relatively easy to find - don’t expect any signs or clues as to jazz taking place, you just buzz yourself in as you would anybody’s flat. Normally there will be a few people there all visiting for the same reason, who you can follow.Music is scheduled to start at 3:30pm, though on my most recent visit we were let in ~3:20 and the music started straight away. Marjorie is kind and welcoming, and other members of her family are on hand to help throughout the show. The music is fast paced and spontaneous, with various musicians performing a range of jazz standards. When I visited the line up was piano, bass, trumpet, and occasional guest guitar. You are literally sat in somebody’s flat - it’s quite an experience! You can read up on the history online. The family are incredibly generous and welcoming - I visited on a hot day in July, and snack bars, water, and cold ginger beer was handed out. There is a collection bucket handed around during the show, and you can tip online via a QR code, too.I’d highly recommend this for a unique and quirky New York music experience. The flat is easily accessible by subway - you can take the A train and then hear that very song played! A great afternoon out.
July 28 · Dominic RidlerUnforgettable! It was the happiest time of my six-day trip to New York.Beautiful music and happiness.I definitely want to go again when I go to New York. Thank you all.
March 10 · oqoqoqqifyThis is one of the most unique things you can do in NYC - step out of the real world for 2 hours and soak up some soul!Enter the lobby of 555 Edgecombe Ave and enjoy the surroundings. Walk up the stairs to the 3rd floor and walk down the hallway to apartment 3F - get there 30 mins early to get a seat at the front. An amazing afternoon with three musicians, led by Marjorie on piano. We were lucky to have some poetry too! Snacks and ginger beers handed out to everyone.Definitely go - just don't tell too many people! 🙂
