Beat Mazesoba Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Tucked away in the vibrant and diverse neighborhood of Flushing, Queens, Beat Mazesoba stands out as a unique destination for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts. While the name might be a giveaway for those in the know, for many, the concept of "mazesoba" is a delightful discovery. Unlike the well-known ramen with its rich broth, mazesoba is a thick, chewy, and "brothless" noodle dish. The name itself translates to "mixed noodles," and it is an accurate description of the experience. It involves combining thick noodles with a savory and flavorful sauce, a variety of toppings, and a poached or sous vide egg. The joy of the dish comes from the act of mixing all the ingredients together, creating a perfectly balanced bite in every slurp.
Beat Mazesoba has built a reputation not just for its signature dish, but also for its broader menu of Japanese and fusion-inspired comfort food. This restaurant offers a cozy and trendy atmosphere that is perfect for a casual lunch, a relaxed dinner, or a night out with friends. Patrons consistently praise the friendly and attentive staff, which adds to the overall welcoming vibe. Whether you're a seasoned foodie eager to try a new form of Japanese cuisine or just looking for a new go-to spot in Queens, Beat Mazesoba provides a memorable and enjoyable dining experience that feels both authentic and innovative. It's a place where you can explore new flavors and enjoy classic favorites in a comfortable setting.
What truly sets Beat Mazesoba apart is its dedication to the art of mazesoba. This style of noodle dish, while popular in parts of Japan like Nagoya where it originated, is a specialty that is not easily found at every Japanese restaurant in New York. The restaurant’s commitment to this unique dish makes it a haven for those seeking to expand their culinary horizons beyond traditional ramen. With its spacious dining area and bar seating, the restaurant is well-suited for various occasions, from a solo lunch to a gathering with a large group.
Beyond its famous mazesoba, the menu is surprisingly extensive, featuring a variety of dishes from classic ramen and soba to donburi (rice bowls), burgers, and a wide array of appetizers and small plates. The combination of traditional Japanese elements with more modern, creative interpretations, such as Banhmi Fries and a Mussel Pot, gives the menu a distinctly fusion feel. This variety ensures that there is something for everyone, whether you are craving a comforting bowl of noodles or want to share a selection of flavorful small bites with your table.

What is worth choosing
When you visit Beat Mazesoba, the primary choice that is absolutely worth making is to dive into the world of mazesoba. This unique, brothless noodle dish is the restaurant's specialty and provides a culinary experience that is distinct from traditional ramen. The "Beat Mazesoba" is a top recommendation, featuring a combination of shoyu and yuzu shio flavors with braised pork belly, spicy ground pork, and a poached egg. The fun of the dish lies in the mixing—you're encouraged to combine all the ingredients to create a rich and complex flavor profile. As an added bonus, a small bowl of rice is provided after you finish your noodles, allowing you to mix it with the remaining sauce and toppings to savor every last bit. This "oi-meshi" tradition is a staple of mazesoba culture and a delicious way to complete your meal.
For those new to the concept, the Yuzu Shio Mazesoba is another excellent option. It offers a slightly lighter, citrusy flavor profile thanks to the yuzu, making it a refreshing alternative. The Curry Mazesoba is perfect for those who enjoy a bold and savory experience with a hint of spice. The variety of mazesoba options ensures that there is a flavor for every palate.
While the mazesoba is the star, the menu has many other gems that are highly recommended. The appetizers are a great way to start your meal or share with a group. The Garlic Butter Edamame is a customer favorite, offering a flavorful twist on a classic. The Crispy Wings, with their choice of sauces, are also a popular pick. For a comforting side, the Grilled Corn Cheese is a perfect indulgence.
If you're not in the mood for mazesoba, the other sections of the menu still provide an array of high-quality dishes. The Donburi/Rice section offers hearty options like the Tonkatsu Curry Don and Unagi Don, which are packed with flavor. The Ramen options, with their rich chicken and duck mixed broth, also get positive reviews. Customers have noted the quality of the noodles and the deliciousness of the broth, with the Miso Ramen and Shoyu Ramen being standout choices.
Beyond the main courses and appetizers, don't forget to try the unique drink options, such as the various matcha and hojicha lattes, or the refreshing kombucha iced teas. And be sure to save room for dessert—the Yuzu Cheesecake is a delightful, tangy end to the meal that reviewers rave about.
In conclusion, Beat Mazesoba is more than just a Japanese restaurant; it's a destination for a specific and satisfying culinary adventure. It’s a place where you can expand your palate, enjoy a meal in a comfortable and friendly setting, and appreciate a lesser-known but equally delicious form of Japanese noodles. The attentive staff, diverse menu, and unique signature dishes make it a spot that is well worth seeking out in Flushing, Queens.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We went for lunch on a Monday. Only metered street parking available but we were lucky. We got a spot right in front. No other customers were inside. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. We decided to try their signature Dish, beat Mazesoba. It had mixed greens, seaweed, braised pork belly, spicy ground pork, half a seasoned egg, poached egg, scallions and noodles. It was good but salty for my taste. I only gave the food 3 stars because of the poached egg. The Albumen of the egg was still raw. I didn't feel comfortable with the raw Albumen when I didn't know if the egg was organic. They also gave you a small bowl of rice to mix with the remaining sauce and spicy pork. I was full before the rice but I tried it anyway. It was a little less salty with the rice than the noodles. I think for the price it's very good.
June 28 · Lisa LCame here with a big group and we were all impressed. The soba noodles were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly chewy — clearly made with care. The broth was comforting without being too heavy, and the toppings were generous. Beyond the food, the vibe was relaxed and welcoming — ideal for catching up with friends or celebrating something low-key. Service was smooth even with a larger party. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a spot that nails both the food and the atmosphere.
July 06 · Sheila XieMaze soba was amazing 🤩 —super flavorful without the broth. The noodles were perfectly chewy, and mixing in the egg made it extra creamy. Definitely a satisfying bowl if you’re into bold, saucy noodles. I’d recommend the Yuzu Shio Maze Soba any day
July 18 · Bryce BalingitThe fries themselves were perfectly golden and crispy, holding up beautifully under all the delicious toppings. Loved the creamy white sauce and the tangy, slightly spicy reddish-orange drizzle that gave it a fantastic kick. The fresh cilantro and chili slices added a vibrant touch and extra flavor. This isn't just a side dish; it's a full-on flavor experience. Paired perfectly with a cold beer, it's a definite must-try if you're looking for something satisfying and packed with taste. Highly recommend!
June 22 · Vincent DoanI haven't been back here in a few years, but pleasantly surprised by the food this time! Had very good appetizers, such as karaage, okonomiyaki, fries, and fish tacos. LOVED the fish tacos. signature beat mazesoba was as good as I remembered. Solid for a big group.
